I'll ask them about both ASG-1.2 and ASG-2 to see if I can try them out. Thanks for the help! :)

You're welcome. Just note that there's a strong possibility that you won't like the asg-1 if you don't plan to use eq

I think they only make the 1.3 and 2 now.

As a side note to this ASG-2 thing, on a few random songs I listened to at work today and in what ways specifically I couldn't say I just got minor flashbacks of the GR07 soundstage/presentation... it's something about the blackness I think. Just a random not for anyone interested.

Yep. I remember the pm exchange we had over a year ago, where you said the mids of the 07 seem to exist in a bubble, untouched no matter what was going on. I get that same sensation with the g2.

I remember that. The g2 can also do it with cues thrown way back which is a neat little trick. :)

What if I doubled my budget to $600?

haha you don't need to go so high
between the GR07 and W4R I reckon there is big enough leap in clarity to be quite noticeable. when you said $300 i was thinking of UE900 which did nothing for me at all, it had quite rolled off highs. B&O H3 also similarly priced, had the same general crowd pleasing rolled off highs.

step up to the likes of Shure 535, Westone 4R and that's when it becomes noticeable...around the $400 mark

The GR07 is actually better than the SE535 to my ears. I didn't spen long enough with the 4R to form a concrete opinion, but it's not much ahead of the 07, and only improves on it in the linearity of the highs. The GR07 belongs in the same performance category as the $300/400 sets.

We can all agree the GR07 punches way above it's weight. How far above is a matter of opinion, I say about $300 it loses steam you say $400

back to the OP, it's far easier to find a friend who has a pair of shures and westones to try out than ASG. try them out first before deciding if it's a big enough step

I've owned the W4 & GR07 (original & MKII).. I'd take the GR07 over the W4.. any day of the week. The W4 has better dynamics, soundstage depth, and imaging.. but I find the GR07 textures better, is more linear, and flat out sounds better. The W4's massive midbass boost ruins what could be quite a special phone (in my eyes). The W4 is sounded too too warm and, frankly, bloated to my ears.. in comparison to the GR07. Neither is a "perfect" phone.. but I think the GR07 does "less wrong."

As far as an upgrade to the GR07.. that's really tough.. I haven't heard anything that sounds quite like it enough to consider calling said phone a direct upgrade. The AS/G-2 is a good suggestion (I have the AS-2).. and many of the same things I love about the GR07, I love from the AS-2. It's smooth, slightly warm, with excellent bass and airy, detailed, but relaxed treble. The AS=2's midrange is terrifically linear and portrays vocals with precision. It's also on the dry side (like the GR07). Aside from that, I'm not sure. There's been some rumors (mentioned on this very thread earlier) that the GR07 MKIII is getting released in October 2013.. but at this point, it's all speculation.

Absolutely true all you said, from my perspective however, I do miss the warmth of the midbass hump. Bloated is a very big exaggeration here. I have never heard of anyone saying the W4 sounded bloated.

I've owned the mk2 for quite some time. Personally I would choose it over my Flat-4 Kaede or TG334. At this price it is just too good, need to try the bass edition soon.

I'll finally be trying the bass edition in a few days. Swapping with another member for my gr07 regular ed for auditioning. Will post impressions later.

What about the T-Peos H-200 as an upgrade of GR07? Just offloaded mine - looking for an upgrade

Its going to be quite different.

I stuck with the 07 for so long because I couldn't find anything that surpassed it technically with a similar sig.

Perhaps the EX1000.

Same!

Guess we have similar IEM tastes :p
Nothing can match up to my GR07 MK2/BE!
So did you enjoy H-200 more than GR07? Do you think I'd be disappointed at all if I got the H-200's? Be honest. :p

I really couldnt say. The H-200 is livelier, but has more flaws. I didn't think it was worth $100 more than the 07 though. Not even $20, really. The only iems that have impressed me like the 07 did are the ASG series, and the ASG-1 needs a treble boost eq to sound its best.
