In terms of shell dimensions, the Erlkonig and Phonix are practically the same right? Ignoring shell material of course.

Yep!

Hello all!

I'm quite late to the EXT but recently I got my hands on it for cheap. It sounds amazing, almost getting my taste to a tee just sometimes a bit much treble at times.
Although, that might come down to the Questyle M15 that I'm using as Questyle CMA18P has a more polite treble.

I'm considering upgrading my source for it as I heard that the EXT scales very well with better sources, currently Cayin Ru7 or iBasso DC Elite is on my mind. What sources should I consider?

I've also tried Fiio M17 for a bit which proves that the EXT does scale but 1) Out of my budget 2) I feel like the treble is too attenuated compared to Questyles which was not the case with the other IEMs I tried with it.

It’s the best I’ve heard with the Cayin N7 and C9 in tow. On a budget I’d imagine the DC elite would be the better out of the two you’ve mentioned due to the power available

The dongles make the treble even spicier.

As @Tristy mentioned, N7 is probably the best source for the EXT. Eletech Raphael (cable) is also another route you could take for an upgrade. I think they’re floating about for about 350? used now.

Hope to try the N7 but it's unlikely. My worries with DC Elite is that it might be too bright with the EXT.

I'm sticking with stock cables for now as I found them to be the lightest and most comfortable to wear among the ones I have. I do have this ivipQ-530 cable that aesthetically goes very well with the EXT (no comment on the sound difference).

DC Elite is VERY far away from a bright signature imho. It's gooey/analoguey

My Impression was that it would be a perfect match with brighter transducers.

Don't know the DC Elite but the Ibasso D16 is a really great combo with the EXT but it doesn’t fit your budget(?!).
It rounded the sharp edges at the upper midrange and also the treble region is much less of a struggle.

I guess you're right. I ended up buying the DC Elite and my first impression of with w/ EXT is that the Elite has effortless control of the treble, much better than Questyle M15. It is still very much airy but not harsh at all, only some especially sibilant songs are a problem.

New VE10 owner here. Have had just over a week and absolutely adore them, phenomenal all rounder iem with a wonderful tuning. Very full, analog, musical and at the same time extremely technically capable. Precise, with fantastic speed & timing, very dynamic & punchy, extremely resolving, beautiful timbre. Love female vocals. Synergy with RS8 is superb (aesthetic’s too).

Bought at CanJam London where I expected I’d walk away with Trifecta which I did appreciate, but it’s far more niche than I was expecting. VE10 totally floored me, and I’d listened to some very capable sets by then too, some costing way more. Bravo @Vision Ears !

Sweet pics.

Nice to see another person enjoying the VE X.

My only all rounder and still delights after many many months.
