I pulled the trigger on buying a secondhand EXT blindly expecting it to be a stopgap between my old set and endgame. Among the TOTL IEMs I've tried, my eyes were set on the Fir Audio Radon 6 with its allure of second-to-none bass response. It is powerful yet controlled, almost like it's coming from a whole new dimension as it never clouds the mids. The mids are warm yet with an unmistakable endgame resolution. And with its airy treble that's never harsh, it's a set I would love to get my hands on if it wasn't so expensive. As such I settled with EXT. Unknown to me, I have found my personal...

Unexpected Endgame
First Impressions
When I got my hands on the EXT for the first time and had it plugged into Questyle M15, I could tell outright that it was an excellent set. Not an endgame level of quality but it is certainly up there. The clarity and resolution were superb, although I expected it to have more bass. My main problem was its sharpness, the treble was too spicy for my taste. From previous experience, I know that IEMs and HPs can get rather sharp or shouty when underpowered (and the fact that EXT is simply one of the most scaling and synergizing IEMs I ever tried).

iBasso DC Elite
I ended up buying the DC Elite and it blew me away. To put it simply, DC Elite (D2 filter) in comparison to Questyle M15 or midrange DAPs feels effortless. From the satisfying impact of the lows, more resolute yet musical mids, to the much better-controlled treble. Never harsh, just a lot when it is called. Sibilant songs are still sibilant to me but less stabby than on the M15. In comparison, other sets do benefit from the DC Elite in a similar way but to a lesser extent (treble might become more present on some in fact). It feels like the M15 was struggling to power the EXT. One element of the EXT that started to become apparent with the Elite is its incredible texture prowess thanks to its DD mids. Unfortunately, the transients decay too quickly for the texture to shine.

Astral Acoustic Pulse
Eletech Raphael was the recommended pair-up with the EXT. Although, I couldn't find one for secondhand. As such I settled with Astral Acoustic Pulse which seems to have a similar-ish property to Raphael to a lesser degree, which I cannot confirm nor deny. What I can say is that Pulse does pair very well with EXT! It slows the transient decay making the lows and mids more lush and more importantly, allows the texture to shine more. It also makes the highs less piercing and peaky without rolling it off - still an abundance of air. Pulse increases dynamics, the bass packs a punch when called yet cleanly disappears when unneeded. Elite + Pulse + EXT combo already sounds amazing yet I wouldn't say it's TOTL dethroning.

Canal Works CW Single Nozzle 《肉球》”Nikukyuu” (CWU-GECM)
I have a decent collection of tips such as FiiO HS18, Divinus Velvet, NF Audio MS42, Tangzu Sancai, and Feaulle H570 to name a few. But one tips perform above the others, by a significant margin (IMHO). It was hard to get the Canal Works gel tips but it was worth the hassle, including forcing its small bore to fit on the EXT. Treble feels more controlled, even during intense passages it never gets overpowering. Bass slams effortlessly, clearly heard underneath busy mid-sessions, never veiling it. And the mids, have a much more forward presence with second-to-none textural capabilities and highly natural/organic timbre. It's safe to say that at this point the EXT doesn't have an U shape signature but rather a balanced W one. In A/B testing with the Fir Audio Radon 6, 64Audio Fourte Blanc, Noble Audio Ronin, Vision Ears Aura, etc I still found myself leaning towards my EXT. As I've said before, I've grown addicted to EXT's DD timbre.

Closing Note
VE EXT is one of a kind IEM to me. It gave me 4 different instances of "honeymoon", the last one I'm still currently on to this day. It is only fitting that I wrote about my journey with this immaculate IEM. This is my first time writing something like this for an IEM, I hope my journey with it was worth your minutes to read. :)

just got my pair of VE10 and thorough enjoying the sound :relaxed:

very expansive soundstage (which is quite different from my memory of phonix/erlkönig) and the bass hits hard.

i looked around and couldn't find any s/n# printed on the shell. just wonder is that there's no s/n # (also for phonix/erlkönig) printed on the shell? it's a bit odd that the acrylic shell ve8/eve20 got s/n# printed but the carbon or metal shell cousins don't. . . .

Congratulations! Great to see another happy owner - these are so special…

While this arrangement sounds incredible (Bifrost2 -> HA-3A), with particular emphasis on stage and physicality, my preference still remains with the RS8. The synergy between the two is on another level like they were specifically made for each other as a system. Just incredible, and makes the VE10 shine across the board. What a time to be enjoying music with this kind of gear.

Hmm... now you got me psyched up again with RS8, I auditioned it a couple of times and loving it with VE10 and some others.

Currently enjoying VE10 with Mojo2 Poly.

Yes it’s a remarkable DAP. Such a natural, organic, musical tonality, plenty of punch / special sauce in the mid/sub-bass and decent chops across stage and resolution. Some similarities there to how I would describe the VE10 - on paper they might seem too similar a pairing but they go together so well - absolute joy to listen to!

Ps, loving that VC in the background - Ironwood? 👌🏻👌🏻

Yeah couldn't agree more on the VE10 can listen to 'em for hours on.

Actually, the VC is Camphor burl, mine is darker than the earlier batch, it is wickedly beautiful.

I haven’t listened to it unfortunately, these are photos I’ve found on the internet.
Darn, hoping someone can share impressions on this soon.
