And comparing vmoda to any fostex t50 variant (LFF or maddog) is kind of pointless considering how not portable they are
It's kind of like comparing Chinese food to Mexican. Both can be delicious when eaten in proper context.
IMO but from my experience with vmodas(m80,lp2,m100) if you listen to music at moderate levels the mids can be recessed but at louder levels I would say that's not the case at all. ALSo depends on your source and amp. My fiio e17 sounds rather soft and honky in comparison to to the x3 or my schitt magni+modi, even my lp2 which some people say has muddy mids almost sounds neutral out of the schitt combo, and not the case when plugged into the e17 at all, lots of people would say that m100s don't need amping wich is absolutely true, they don't NEED IT, I would say they sound drastically better with a good amp and can have very different sound with different sources/ amps

I Just got a pair yesterday. I plugged in the cable provided firmly making sure it was secure. The headphones sounded terrible. No mids or midbass. Lows only had significance on extreme lows and the highs were harsh. Later on I randomly unplugged the cable, played with the folding feature for a moment, plugged the cable back in and everything changed and the headphones sound exactly as described.

Weird.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. I'm in love with these.

For the mid I think the XL pad improve it very well.

I personally don't feel this way.  The XL pads added a little too much bass which drowned out the midrange, which is the opposite of what needs to happen with the M-100, it doesn't need anymore bass unfortunately XD

Ok cool, i just ordered the m100 myself :)

Heard some great things about the bw p7, they look really posh aswell. They are ofcourse also a bit more expensive, and m100 is probably more suited for rap and electronic still (i dont know havent tested them yet myself?)

Totally true, try the M-100 on Linkin Park Recharged and you will be blown away.  However, if you are getting XL pads, shields, and BoomPro Mic, it will cost about the same as a pair of P7.

Lol so true.

I got m100s ($310) then hired a professional artist to make my art ($40) then engraving ($45) then got a boompro cable and XL pads.

That's 310 + 40 + 45 + 25
= 420.

Too bad I paid half for the m100s and paid whole for plates, so around...

85 + £90 (around $130) so $225 - $250
Not bad, but very expensive in my point of view for accessories, even if they are badass
But. Get this. I got most of the money given to me for birthday. Spent $85 in total.

FYI, first pair of custom shields should be free when you order from V-MODA.

all my vmoda HPs take a lot of time to break in. kind of deceiving because they sound really good out of the box but i can assure you. my lp2 mid to high frequencys really opened up around 150 -200 hours they have very heavy materials in the driver. i listen to them on average 2 hours every day for 2 1/2 years on my lp2. my m100 is much newer though.
you would be hard pressed to find a hp with dynamic drivers that has better PRAT out there this in my op. is where vmoda truly jumps out for me

Yes I also agree that burn in balances out the sound. But bass is this headphone's top priority. And it's accurate and pronounced. After maybe 20 hours of burn in, and with XL pads i enjoy all music with them. But This is not for those who prefer flat/neutral sound. But it is responsive to equalization. And source and amplification especially. The amp which my M100s sound most balanced, dynamic and spacious is my old ALO Double M3.

I found a negligible difference in sound, if any, after 144+ hours of pink noise burn in + at least another 300 hours of regular use over the last year.

And yeah, the XL Pads do make the mids more muffled/laid-back than with the stock pads. I personally don't mind for mobile use, but when I get back home and listen to them in a quiet environment...yeah, no. >.>

Really? I could of perceived some difference changing sources and amps. But they did sound great right out of the box for me.

The biggest change for me was within the first 12 hrs. Thereafter the changes tapered off and at least for me little to no change after 48 hrs. Pad comfort change molding OTOH took -a long time-.

Dooh...then I missed that window since I didn't listen to the M-100 during the initial pink noise burn-in process. T_T
I did use the same few tracks that I initially listened to upon unboxing the M-100, and I didn't notice anything major.

Did you stretch the stock pads somehow?
