USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

Your experience or internet sourced ?

Mine is made fine. Faux leather clued perfectly. Took me a while to even find the edges (so close together).
Main problem with faux leather is:

It is basically plastic with softeners/plasticizers,
and as soon as those chemicals are evaporated, the faux leather will crumble away.

Sorry for almost unrelated comment: only cheapest "faux leather", like PVC-based one, uses plasticizers (very sadly, plasticized PVC is used in almost all IEM cables, and it gets stiff with time by plasticizer leaching/diffusion rather than evaporation).

A lot of synthetic leathers can be formulated without plasticizers, using PVA, etc. I do believe Shio wrap is of this unplasticized type. But definitely the seam will get soiled and opened with time - a poor design, regrettably.

Has anyone come across a usb c adaptor similar to this but with male to male pins, Would be an interesting way to place the dongles behind the phone.

I finally retired my LG V30 phone after five and a half years. And of course there are no phones with 3.5mm jacks. I also decided I wasn’t chasing flagship phones anymore.
I picked up a few Motorola Edge (2022) phones for my wife and I.

So, I starting researching dongles and found THE dongle website:

I watched and read a ton of reviews. Also, since I live in Canada, availability was an issue.
I was interested in the FiiO KA5, Shanling UA3, iBasso DC04Pro and Fosi Audio DS1.
I ended up ordering the FiiO KA5 and Fosi Audio DS1 from Amazon.ca.
The DS1 would not work as the included cable would not attach to my phone. I tried the KA5 and it worked fine. I then used the FiiO cable with the DS1 and it powered up fine. Right away, I didn’t care for the sound, compared to the KA5. Also with a non-functional cable my options were: 1) Wait a while for a replacement cable and hope it works or 2) Go out and buy my own cable. I didn’t care for either option and decided to send it back to Amazon and it will be going in the mail tomorrow.

I downloaded the FiiO Control app and set up the dongle and I am pretty happy. No, it can’t come close to my desktop system, but it sounds pretty damn good. I will only use the phone for some YouTube and music when out and about or at work. I was using the iBasso SR2’s and it was a nice combo.

I use Rocket Player for my audio, but am curious about trying out UAPP for a better sound. I will look into that.
I am really surprised that there is not a Lot more info on dongles as just about any phone, or even cheap DAP user needs them for headphones and earphones.

As Andy says the KA5 has tons of features for those that love to tinker. High and low gain, 3.5mm /4.4mm jacks, buttons for volume and skipping tracks, display/pause button, five different filters, etc.
I will post more as I go and hopefully other folks that have this model will join up and post about their experiences and favourite features.

Forgot to mention pricing. List price is $129.00US and I paid $180.00 in Canuck bucks to Amazon.ca

I ordered (but not received yet) this one just to try : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005005030851172.html
There's also this but longer, not fit for my flip phone : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005003470774341.html

And because i have a thing for adapters i ordered this too, the shortest of interconnects :stuck_out_tongue:
But obviously not recommanded for portable devices USB ports because of torque potential damages :

the problems with fiio KA5 are that it uses RT6863, and fiio Q11 sounds better, but enjoy your cable.
FiiO KA5 uses SGM8261-5, not RT6863.

Also: What is wrong with RT6863?

Hey can someone explain to me why these are not used instead of tyce c dacs?

- 100-110 dollar band can also be found in such devices and there are chips such as es 9218 or es 9219 in them.

- They can be used as dac.

- They have screens, isn't it more logical to use this than to pay fiio ka 5 a whole world for the calculator screen?

- We can also use it as a music player, and it has practical solutions such as a volume wheel.

- It includes sound software.
- the average 150 dollars in the example, if we can use it as a dac, isn't it much more reasonable than models such as fiio ka 5 or btr5k?

I don't claim to have found the cheat for the game, I'm just wondering why. When I ordered another dac, I decided to sell the ibasso dc 03 without even opening the box. If I can use such a device as a dac, I see no reason why I should not sell the other dac and order one.
