Differences in my LG V30 setup:
  • System > HTTP client = HTTPUrlConnection
  • Internal HiRes audio > Bit perfect mode = On
  • Android audio > Android sample rate = Device native sample rate

Thanks, I'll try those.

Changing those settings didn't help - still hearing clicks and pops.
.
Toward the end of January, after my On-Call time at work is done for awhile, I'm thinking of wiping LineageOS off my phone, and installing the stock LG firmware, but still rooted with Magisk. Then, I'll know for sure, whether the audio anomalies are being caused by the alternate ROM.

And there you have it. Another issue with LineageOS. Why do people keep thinking it will behave the same as the original?

Well, everything else about UAPP is working fine, running on LineageOS 15.1 on my LG V30 - only the Tidal tracks are making noise.
And, using UAPP to play Tidal tracks on my old Nexus 7 (2013) tablet, which is also running LineageOS 15.1 - and I don't hear any clicks or pops.
I know that the Nexus 7 isn't decoding the MQA tracks, but there's no noise when playing regular tracks either, like there is on the LG V30.

Sorry, but my support ends when installing non-official ROM's.

@DBaldock9: I occasionally get clicks and pops in UAPP after switching back and forth between it and Tidal. I've never been able to determine the cause, but it always goes away after a reboot.

I'm on stock Oreo V30 H932.

Edit: Network Buffer Size = 10secs, Network chunk size = 256kB, HTTP Client = HTTPUrlConnection. But tweaking those didn't seem to affect this one way or the other. Reboot always did, though.

Edit 2: Also, I found that Tidal itself has a lot of errors in many of its non-Master tracks, but of course you'd hear that in both UAPP and the Tidal app.

Make sure to use OkHttp in UAPP v5.

Hello. I was checking if any progress has been made with the Onkyo DP-X1 being able to use MQA in UAPP? If I am understanding correctly, it can use 96 kHz files, but not 88.2? Is this correct? Will subscribe to this thread in hopes of good news in the future! Thanks to all in the Head-Fi community for always being helpful!

Yes, my happy experience with Tidal MQA over the last few days suggests that is the case. Another important step forward for patient DP-X1 owners alerted to UAPP - best five bucks I've spent all Christmas.

MQA is working on a solution. At the moment, you can only play 48 -> 96kHz files indeed and in the latest version, purchase of the MQA decoder is blocked for these devices.

This honesty is such a bliss in a world where "we'll take your money if we can get away with it" has become the norm. Thank you!

Hi.
Try to put Play through andriod Off.
Good luck :)

I'm still hearing clicks and pops, when using UAPP on my LG V30, to listen to MQA or regular tracks on Tidal. The Tidal app plays without any spurious noise. I'm connected to a WiFi network that tests at ~95 Mbps download speed.

These are the settings that I'm using, on my LG V30, running UAPP v5.0.4 -
.
  • Internal audio driver = HiRes Direct driver
  • System > Network beffer size = 10 seconds
  • System > Network chunk size = 64 kB
  • System > HTTP client = OkHTTP
  • MQA > Show MQA playback information = On
  • Internal HiRes audio > HiRes driver flags = MQA
  • Internal HiRes audio > HiRes driver audio format = Auto
  • Internal HiRes audio > Bit perfect mode = When possible
  • Internal HiRes audio > Upsample = Off
  • Internal HiRes audio > Buffer size = 600 milliseconds
  • Android audio > Play through Android = On
  • Android audio > Android sample rate = Variable rate

In simple terms, the decoder does the first unfold, the renderer does the second unfold. MQA renderers cannot do anything with MQA unless it's decoded first. The DRF and iFi's do the second unfold when UAPP passes it's MQA decoded audio to the DACs. So in combination with UAPP, you will get 176.4 or 192 kHz (although you won't see the actual DAC rate in the UAPP display)

Will you make an "MQA albums", or "TIDAL Masters albums" section in UAPP Android app similarly to BluOS Controller?

Great congrats for the MQA unfold, it works flawlessly on my Xiaomi MI8!
It also sounds great, due to your efforts and my AQ Dragonfly Red and Meze 99Classics. :L3000:
