What would be a good upgrade from a Denon d1001, if you know that I'm listening to music like The Knife, Bonobo, Fever Ray? I must add that I have quite a broad music taste, including pop music, movie scores, rock once in a while, but also things like Buddha Bar, minimal techno etc..

I have just ordered a Fiio E7, and if that's to my liking, maybe a Fiio E9 in the (near) future. I'm looking at closed headphones mainly. And would only upgrade if it's a noticable improvement. Like:

-Denon D2000
-Ultrasone HFI 780
-Beyerdynamic DT770 / 80 (?) or 250 (?)
-AKG K271S
-SRH840
-ATH-ESW9

Any comments?

Even my D7000 loves the E7 and ESPECIALLY the E9, so I'm gonna assume the next logical step is the D2000. I had the CAL (which is basically the D1001), and I definitely didn't feel the ESW9 or DT770 Pro 80 were worthwhile over it.

D2000 or probably Ultrasone.

All music genres except for classical: the Denons

Minimal techno (or really anything electronic): especially the Denons

I use my pair with an E7.  I dream of the E9, but I have no complaints so far
