From your description thinker, these seem like they sound exactly as I had hoped. I'm thrilled reading your review. I can't wait until you test them out on other amps. I've gotten ahold of a Beta 22 to try them out on, along with my Concerto and WA22.

Considering that he only plugged them into his Mac Pro, I can't help wondering if the bass wont suddenly explode once he uses his big tube amp.

Are you using a DAC? You mentioned they sound exceptional out of an iPod. It would be quite a feat if these sounded as good as an HD800 without an amp.
 
I mean, if that's the case, then these are suddenly more competitive with "more reasonably priced" cans that need amping.
