I was suggesting Craig just use his Cary as the source. He would make a XLR to mini connector cable to connect the two or use the RCA out to mini as well. Craig probably would do both and see if there is any sonic differences.

You're right that the Protector would still be single ended where it comes in and then split back out to balance. Now if Ray would include the newly introduced connector as the input as well and keep it balance, oh well, that would be phase II of the Protector.

I am listening to the Protector with the TWag balanced wire. Excellent sound all the way around. The connection is very solid and the balanced plug with Craig's termination and wire look like they are made for each other.

Balanced to Balanced (ROCKS)
