I always though that Bob said they only used his smartphone to test them.

I'm without a portable amp at the moment. Maybe it's time to look for one.
Bob always made sure that it would work with just a smartphone, but he always admitted that they would be even nicer when given a bit of juice.

I have a Schiit Vali, lets see if that's a good match. Usually they dont go very well with sensitive IEM's

I've got the Vali 2 as part of my work setup but I haven't tried the Icarus III's on it yet, I'll have to give that a try too.

It makes sense. Anyone can recommend me one amp on the cheap side. Preferably under 50?

Are you in the UK?... If so, I've a CMOY you can have for nothing if you're willing to pay the postage. It's just the classic 'Altoids tin' build, but works well - I just never use it since I started using DAPs. Will throw in a 3.5mm LOD too if you need it.

Pm me if you want it.

Trinity must be doing something different with their shipping as I received my 8 Wire Litz cables today. They were only shipped out last Wednesday, so only one week to the US. If normally takes 2-3 weeks from the U.K. Certainly not complaining and actually quite happy. Even though won't be able to open them for several days as I am not at home presently.

See, this is the good side of Head-Fi right here. Real decent of you UKMrT, hope he takes you up on that.

Most IEMs are highly efficient. Wonder why many seem to benefit from an amp? Some of the Trinity are pretty low impedance. Think a gutsier amp handles that better? Problem with that idea is Sennheiser HD600 cans are 300 ohms. Hear some components play them louder than I would ever listen, but still not sound "right" compared to an amp. It is strange.

Well you sure don't need to run them wide open but a decent amp will really bring out all the qualities of a good iem.

Hear here to UKMrT and a fine gesture indeed. Like the OD04 my family is set and I've probably gifted as much as I've kept over the years.

If I were suggesting I's say the new NX1 or an NX2:-)

hear hear, there are many good souls on this site
Aye aye. I myself have given away a couple items through the FS/FT forum by just having people who were interested post and either I picked or I used an RNG, don't remember which though. Some items I'm willing to part with just for postage if it's helping further someone else on their audio journey.

There's gotta be something in the impedance curve or whatever. I'm not an audio engineer nor do I really know much of anything when it comes to the numbers, but let's put it this way: Trinity IEMs all seem to quote about 16Ohms impedance, but all the ones I own take 2-3 clicks more on my iPod Touch 5g to sound the same volume as my Earwerkz Supra or JH16 Pro FP. Relatively speaking, in a quiet environment, I can have the Supra at 1 volume click, the JH16 at 1-2 volume clicks, and the Trinity IEMs at maybe 3-5 volume clicks and all would sound roughly the same volume. The Supra is a 23Ohm quoted impedance and the JH16 has an 18Ohm quoted impedance. So why so much more power to get the same volume with the Trinity IEMs? I mean, I'm not measuring my sound level meter so I'm by no means being all that exact, but still.

It also depends on their sensitivity. The lower the sensitivity the harder they are to drive.
