If you live in a place where you're always in a car (like LA) you have people who enjoy installing aftermarket car stereos.

 
Yup, yup, and yup.  A lot of it comes down to lifestyle and need.  Throw in a bit of fanaticism and a culture obsessed with detail, and BOOM.
