Hey best solution i ever did for cables was a sennheiser hd600 or hd650 cable soldered right to the drivers! I thought it sounded better than the trick looking mogami i braided. you can get a hd650 cable for roughly 30 on ebay. The stock cable wont work since there is only 3 strands in it and you need 4, ground for each driver plus the left and right signal which the hd650 cable has conveniently at the ready. not to mention its a robust solid cable.

Now *that* is what I'm talking about.  Thanks!

Question, though.... it appears to only come with a 1/4" jack.  Do they make a similar with a mini-jack?  Using the adapter *all the time* is kinda ridiculous for me.

EDIT:  I guess this is what I'm looking for... http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HZL26GOUD-Headphones-cable/dp/B000KPSLZG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1322588489&sr=8-3

(thanks for the info on the stock cable too)

get the hd600 cable then, it has a 1/8th as the base and the 1/4 you see is actually a slip on adapter its pretty trick

Hello, im wondering what sound card i should get to pair the thunderpants whit my computer im gonna be getting a HiFiMAN EF-5 for amping it but do i need a sound card too?

I love my Xonar Essence STX, but make sure you look at standalone DACs before you commit to the sound card route.  After investing over a thousand dollars in your headphone/amp combo, splurging on a really good DAC may make more sense for you than it did for me.

I'll leave it for others with more experience to make specific suggestions.

I have never heard the Xonar but going by the construction details it should get you performance equal to DACs in the ~ $200-300 range (assuming that they have done a really god job in power isolation - some standalone DACs don't do that great in this regard).

Here are a couple of pix of my new baffles:

I found some black acrylic discs on ebay, and they were a perfect size: 1/4" thick by a hair over 4" in diameter.
Fits more in line with the 'Plastic' theme in the 'Plasic Pantz'. The downside is that my polishing job on the ABS
cups pales in comparison.

that looks great!  If you don't mind me asking, how did you cut down the ABS pipe caps so they are nice and square?

Thanks.

I got a scrap piece of 3" ABS pipe about a foot long and installed the caps at each end. That keeps them
square and level. Then I used a heavy duty miter saw to cut one of the caps to size, removed the cut piece
of the pipe from the cut cap, and reinstalled it on the pipe, again to keep things square and level. Then I cut
the second cap.

To smooth the cut surface of each cap, I turned them edge down and used a circular motion on sandpaper.
The final sanding was done wet using #220, then #320 wet-or-dry paper.

Hey guys, are there any midrange portable amps (300-400$) that can power the thunderpants well?

The only portables I know of are by Ray Samuels Audio (SR71-A and B), and ALO Audio's "The Continental V1 and V2".  Unfortunately, they are all over your budget.  Maybe you could check the classifieds for used versions of these?
