Thanks, that did the trick!

^ yea man, the stax pads will collapse a smidge over time. Just a few days ago i re-adjusted myn. Take the pads off and pull the filling around so it sits flat again and then re-stretch them over the baffle.

Especially when you listen for 10s of hours a week like I do :-)
I haven't noticed any loss of comfort or sound quality - in fact if anything the bass is a tad stronger now - just a cosmetic thing. Will see how they hold up with a few hundred more hours.
Still love the Stax pads. Huge improvement over the Fostex pads IMO.

The black pads feel like they'd stay in shape a lot longer than the brown ones as the material is thicker and firmer. Guess they all crumple after a time.

I get a great seal with the black pads.
A few people on this thread have tried out both, some prefer the sound of one or the other, others say there is no difference they can detect. I think I pinged on this awhile back, searching the thread should get the references.

with the black pads being firmer, would you say you could get a better seal with the brown pads?

Hi, very interesting thread and name (
biggrin.gif
), I have a couple of questions. So I assume that Smeggy is creator of the mod and he is the only selling it commercially? The rest of the people just built it themselves?

And the next question is for Smeggy, does your price contain recabling or there is no recabling for Thunderpants? If it's, what cable?

Did someone describe the whole DIY MOD in one articule?

Yes Smegster came up with the mod and yes only he is selling it commercially, yes others wanting to try their hand at it can do so.

The mod has been described in enough detail by Smeggster.

Well I've been without my DIY TP's for a while now and I'm missing them
frown.gif

The Paperstone turned out to be a little too heavy for long term use, at least in the way I machined it. I think it could be turned to have a thinner wall and might be acceptable.

Since I passed them on I bought a set of HE-500's, which are now also gone. I thought they were great sounding but too heavy and clunky (for me anyway), much like the pair I built

I now have another set of T50rp's on hand for modification and I'm thinking of taking a slightly different tack and building up a pair of enclosures with fiberglass/wood/epoxy.

The enclosure I'm imagining would slightly angle the drivers and be as minimal (small!) as possible without giving up performance. I would probably reuse the original headband but try to find some very close fitting but circum-aural pads as found on cans intended for portable use.

Anyway, just thinking out loud. When I get it going I might just start a new thread so I don't muddy the TP waters.

I don't wanna direct links, I just wanna know where I should look and not waste time. If it is only appreciation thread then you don't wanna see my face after I read 105 pages

My previous question was, all the info about mod is in this thread? If it is I will look for myself.
