OK now I have to get the EX1000

Yeah well @Tawek is enthusiastic

Tagging the SE5U as a joke is a bit excessive to say the least but I had been meaning to get the EX1000 for a while but put the purchase of to a corner of my mind... I am glad I finally made the jump as even new the EX1000 is pretty good value for money for sure it's still a top performer and a good pairing with 1Z for sure. I was very pleasantly suprised by how much better it gets with a copper balanced cable, the extra power sure helps and the copper tames those peaks quite well (maybe the MDR-7550 is a smoother version, I'd be curious to compare). The EX1000 still have shortcomings as all IEMs do, like poor isolation and a bit of leaking but if I was on a budget and wanted TOTL level IEM I'd sure consider them top of the list (for sedentary use, forget commute) at 350/400€ new.

Se5ult its great ( no joke ) :) especially with lpg and wm1z, but listening to electronics and ambient ( my favorite Astronaut Ape , Koan ,Schiller , Ex1000 sounds more openly, freely, with similar resolution and af course bass is faster and better controlled , resolution and depth similar to Se5ult

Where do you people still find the ex1000 for sale? They seem perfect for the type of music that I listen to. Pop/Rock.

Got them on eBay direct from Japanese sellers, there are still new unsealed pairs as well as used ones in good condition

What cable more exactly?
And is that bad for using it outside?

I got the Earmax cable, a cheap 4 wire copper...

Still, I found it was quite an improvement and I decided to go full 8 Cores Flat Braid 5n OCC Upgrade Cable (except picture below is that of an hybrid silver/copper while I ordered a full copper) :

We'll see!

it depends for me they are one of the most comfortable headphones I have with very good seal I use large "mandarines symbio w tips"

Yes they are very comfortable just not isolating enough to use say in the metro, especially at the volume level I listen to...

So, with the Earmax cable, the higs were already tamed?

The cables used in the EX1000 is a 7N-OFC Litz cord with extremely high purity (99.99999%).

Yes the upper mids and treble peaks are nicely smoothed out.
It's such a big difference that I wonder if the stock EX1000 cable is not a bright cable itself...

I know the stock cable is good, but it seems to be tuned for extra clarity and I think that's not what the EX1000 needs (for my taste).

Surprising to see that a IEM released in 2011 is still available to be purchased new! Unfortunatley the cheapest I can find the EX1000 is $1000!

I know in some brick stores (esp. Asia) you may be able to find it way cheaper. Here in the US I picked up an EX1000 from one store which I can’t recollect now but I think they’re all gone now plus the store.
Ebay & Amazon are good places to buy newly released stuff but olde stuff it’s a 50/50. I’m having bad experiences now as products get older and sellers are not totally listing most of the faults.
For the $1000 to be invested on an EX1000 I think it would be better to get a newer model or some other reliable brand

That's just silly. The EX1000 is good value at its MSRP, but not at $1000. There are lots of better options at that price.
This place is so evil...
If I have to be left stranded on a deserted island and I have to pick one IEM to go with my WM1Z , the EX1000 is far down on that list.
