Listening to the NiceHCK Himalaya most of this evening, utterly fantastic single DD… especially at $300.
Very engaging tonality with powerful bass, emotive clear mids and crisp sparkle up top - wide soundstage with some of the best imaging and layering I’ve heard sub $1k, let alone for a $300 set - quite a 3D style rendering and utterly captivating.
So far I’m reaching more for energetic segments of my library such as house, techno, trance, D&B etc… excellent for all of these but plan to test more genres over the weekend.
This music was commissioned by the Royal Infirmary, Bristol, for ambient playback in the ancillary areas of a new MRI Scanner, primarily to relax children being scanned.
"The three 20 minute pieces are designed to induce feelings of calm and security, and are also perfect for anyone looking for ambient accompaniment to yoga, meditation, massage, tai chi, or simply relaxation. Complex melodies and rhythms are absent, replaced by slowly evolving textures and processed fragments of sound from piano, kalimba, and the natural world.

Today, I am back on the McIntosh. No Sony or Hiby can compare to how great the M-Scaler and McIntosh sounds together in my opinion. The Fourte Blanc sound stage sounds 2 or 3 times larger than off the Hiby RS8 and smoother than the GS-X Mini. The depths of the sound stage is truly like listening to a live performance. I am pondering again getting 1 meter Kimber Kable Select 1136 XLR cables to connect the Hugo TT2 to the McIntosh. This is my weak point. This is just out of my reach of anything I would do in any rational state of mind. I upgrade this interconnect point from Base to Summit series. I think it is finally time to go to Select Series.
The sound stage is just has to be experienced, the McIntosh works so well with the Fourte Blanc.
The only distraction is the tube noise from not being able to match the impedance.
I finally got myself a set of these KS-1136 balanced XLR cables. They're about $4100 per meter so insane. Almost doesn't make sense in my system because they are more expensive than the components they are connecting. But wow, it's like upgrading from iPhone dongle to an HugoTT2. The transparency, detail, and tactility is like walking into a demo room of Guitar Center and playing the instruments yourself. It is a bit bright, but it can make closedback headphones sound like openback.
And if you are insane and buy a set, they personalize the experience and provide a Pelican case for the connector.
