64 Audio HQ Vlog

Hey everyone! Recently I had the opportunity to travel to 64 Audio's HQ in Vancouver, WA thanks to Headphones.com. I got a tour of the facility, interviewed the Vitalys and others, and got to hang out for several hours in their demo room. This is a just a small vlog I put together for my own channel, mostly consisting of listening impressions in the demo room. But rest assured that there is also a written article and a full, in-depth video in the works that will be on the Headphone Show!

Looks like a solution looking for a problem... I don't get it? If your going to hang the things off the back of your ears, why not just go with cables?

When I am walking outside, I prefer not having a cable from my ears to my phone, sitting in my pants pocket...

I had a similar experience when I tested it. I think the blacker background creates the perception of a more expanded soundstage, that's the only explanation I have.

Have you tried the Hugo2 one?

Respect to the OGs, Vitaly sold me his old CDM back in the day which he used in the tuning of some of their early offerings. He signed it, great guy.

Maybe just fun tech and toy... Then yeah..sure.

It's nice if you're doing something that requires a lot of movement (like installing light fixtures lol), no cable to get all tangled up in.

I also went the same way, but with FiiO UTWS5 because I couldn’t find iFi offering to test at my local hifi store.

The convenience and freedom from not having a wire and not having to carry a big DAP in pocket are unmatched. No more having to worry that someone or something might yank the cable.

What surprises me is that I don’t have to sacrifice that much soundstage and layering for this sort of convenience, even when using iPhone with AAC. My FiiO BTR5 2019 was nowhere this good. From Twister6’s description, it seems @iFi audio offering even outperforms wired connection sometimes.

I look forward to reading any comparisons. As a long time lover of the indigo and judging by UMs own notes posted on headfi I don't think the mk3 would ever displace the indigo but never know.

Went to see my first classical concert since the pandemic. It was magical. I was fully immersed for 90 minutes .

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at the park​

Scores: The orchestra started with classics from Rossini Barber of Seville, The: Overture (Italian) Bizet
Carmen: Suite No. 1, Elgar: Pomp and Circumstance: March No. 1, Op. 39, then movie soundtrack highlights from John Williams such as Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Sound quality: It's been a while since I've been to a live concert. I liked that I could hear the distinct unique timbre of each instrument. The staging was engulfing. It wasn't just left to right, but dimensional with each position in space. I "felt" the physical vibrations of the sound with my body. With the outdoor setting, the micro details weren't as "clean sounding" as a CD recording but I connected more on a human level as an audience member.

Seeing the interplay between the conductor and orchestra members was engaging. The visual cues of the conductor holding a grand pause for example added to the tension. Keen on attending a concert in an unamplified indoor hallway / auditorium!

Incredible channel matching of MEST III.

I don’t think it sounds that bassy in real life. The BCD might balance the upper midrange out, but unfortunately coupler wouldn’t pick up the BCD.

My first DAP, 15 years old Cowon iAudio 7 is still working and still sounds good with Monarch MK2 (though the battery is gone)...

Suffice it to say, designing a wireless system capable of going against some wired setups was our goal, so we're very pleased when folks here consider it as such. Wireless playback got really good in recent years
