Thanks. I am just looking for something that blows me away in any dimension. My library is very ecclectic so there is room for a lot of sound signatures and technical capabilities. It's just that my collection is so robust, it's hard to impress me anymore. How does it compare to Jewel? That is my reference monitor.
Different beasts. If by 'reference', you mean you are using Jewel for critical listening, then IMO, Storm is more competent. By my biased standards, it scores highly on technicals — resolution, details, separation/layering, accuracy (tone/timbre), balance, PRaT, which for me are just what reference monitors need.

No doubting the engaging level of Jewel; it is a bewitching IEM on the right audio chain playing the right material, which for me, is female vocals, ballads, jazz along the lines of Diana Krall, Laura Fygi. Great mids, just the right amount of soundstage, I can completely understand why people love it so much. Whilst Storm will not blow you away in the first couple minutes, you will appreciate how natural, balanced and accurate it is, without sounding insipid or cold. Completely non-fatiguing for hours on end for me, which is saying a lot since I do not like universals.

Do please try to get on the headfi tour and listen for yourself, I am known to have quite radical opinions on sound and I cannot stress enough that the source, material, etc, have such a big impact that we could be hearing completely different things off the same transducer.

Perhaps 'Harmony' would have been a more apt name than 'Storm'? 🤔
Well, maybe if the Subtonic boys were listening to Kumbaya rather heavy metal while tuning, it would have been called that! 😆

Went to demo a few stuff today. Sadly Elysian IEMs are not available since Lee's taking them out for a show or sth.

Man I wish someone comes up with a combination of IER Z1R's beautiful bass with everything else from Annihilator (the clean midrange, agressive tuning, superb details & separation). Z1R stil has the best bass but guitars don't roar as they do with Annihilator.
The Annihilator and Diva, probably others too, are available for demo at the Hong Kong AV Show (at the EA booth) if anyone is there and keen. 🙃

I wish I had a chance to listen to Jewel and hopefully down the line to compare with Storm. I thought Storm was superb with anything instrumental and the ability to organise a track was the best I've heard. I agree with the non-fatiguing part, despite how much dynamics it throws at you. I can't wait for my set!

Frankly, I don’t think Jewel and Storm belong in any basket together other than price!

Storm's sound characteristic sounds promising. Until now I have read some of your listening impressions but have not seen a single photo of this iem.

Could someone please share photos of Subtonic's Storm. That would be great 🤓

Eletech Victoria HKD $4,980
Theater D03 Wamon synchronized retail sale!

Hong Kong agent collaborated with Hong Kong agents after Liu Tyrian to launch limited edition steel Victoria.
Utilizing the debut rose gold induction needle, more in line with the brand's long-term research results, the neat noise of the steel material is added to a bright, shiny noise gloss.

The 9x9 geometric configuration of the castor, plus texture, greatly enhances the high-end fine-tuning ability and provides a background for the sharp sound. Tik Tok has excellent Headroom, which is easier to go with different output players and headphones, especially the central tones with high resolution, and the unique design of the brand.

But the DMP-Z1 has a built-in battery though

Man… I just wanna be a baller to just carry around the DMP-Z1. If I had one, I definitely would lmao

Hey Watercooler Friends, I have a general question that I think this place is the only forum I’d even dare ask this question, lol. My sense is for the most part, everyone’s good natured in temperament, but knowing how some subjects can cause religious wars in audiophile circles, I should state that I’m just genuinely curious for thoughts from folks that I’ve come to respect, nothing more.

Some may have heard of the recent “MoFi debacle” that’s causing new rounds of the vinyl vs digital debate. Anyone here still fans of vinyl, or are we all digital here in this group, here as we sit in 2022? A little of both still?

For my part, I got curious about vinyl a little over a year ago, but landed on the idea that the headaches of vinyl were too much for any perceived or real subjective benefits, so digital is where I’m at, 100% with streaming/purchases through a Qobuz. I was kinda curious about DSD vs HiRes FLAC, still am doing some personal A/B testing of files, but want to learn more about why Rob Watts from Chord seems to hate DSD, so I’m curious to learn more just for self-learning. Where are the rest of you on this subject? Curious minds want to know!

The current drama made the Washington Post recently, if any are interested: https://www.washingtonpost.com/music/2022/08/05/mofi-records-analog-digital-scandal/

Seems like this is still a prototype. I wonder what the drivers are inside. And it seems to have RBG lights???
