With so many people used to me sharing mega-kilobuck iems and dap reviews, it's probably weird to see me to post a chi-fi review. We know @ddHiFi are well known for their accessories, yet, not too many are familiar with their IEMs, Janus model. The latest Janus 3 iteration is actually pretty good for $100 plus change and then it scales up with their optional companion M120B digital cable with a built in dac. You can get that cable in mmcx or 2pin and with either usb-c or lightning termination. I also included a separate pair up section with a handful of mmcx IEMs I have access to, and it makes IT07 and Solaris '20 and Solaris '23 shine! The funny thing, someone was just talking about spending close to $200 to get a pair of eartips, while here you can get a pair of IEMs with custom eartips, accessories, modular cable, and a digital cable for the same price :D But anyway, for those who are interested, enjoy the read.

What does it sound closest to in terms of tone and balance compared to other IEMs you've heard? Rn6?
This is a great question…I know I’m not @Rockwell75 but having owned Perpetua for some time, I would say As far as balance it prob leans closest to Rn6 but I would say due to Perpetua’s linearity, that it’s an even more balanced, refined sound. Definitely more coherent.

Tonality sounds more natural to my ear than Rn6 but I prefer Perpetua tonality over Traillii/Phonix le. I haven’t heard an iem to rival tonality and timbre of Perpetua IMO…YMMV

Spent a fair amount of time away from this combo. Started listening to them last night, and the "Wow" factor hit me all over again!

What were you listening to instead?

It's flat-ish with a dash of energy up top. It's hard to compare to anything else really. More prominent and better bass texture than the RN6, though I've only really spent time with that IEM with the red filter. Timbre is shockingly good. Going from the Fei Wan to the Perpetua this morning and the DD goodness in the mids was overwhelmingly apparent to my ears.

I kind of like to rotate my iems about a week at a time. I think it continually gives me a fresh appreciation for the iems that I have. Honestly the last week I spent a lot of time with the Bravura. Not really a headphone guy, but I’ve been very impressed and it has a small footprint compared to desktop systems.

Why so expensive in Indonesia?
I can only blame the customs 😂
Only the customs cost around 70 usd 🤪

Now that you say it, I wonder why I don't see "IEMus Supremus" title here 😂

That's a great set, a bunch on my SD! Just listened to extended mix of Getting Away With It!

White China

Ultravox was forgotten.

Ooh yes, Ultravox! Thanks for the reminder!

Or maybe Daimyo is better 😉

I really like both of those! 🥰 Given hierarchy, I'd imagine either of those could be a future Ronin successor?

If one goes way back, they would know I was responsible for the Tzar 90 & the Tsar 350 maybe 13 years ago.

So using the Tsar name (& I like it) would not be unique.

But yes, it is true.... options are running thin

🍻

 Great minds think alike! Man, that was like Head-Fi lifetimes ago... I bet Romy has one (or both) of those.

Still, beats browsing a long list in alphabetical order for me. One could ask it to group into 4-5 categories for example, so doesn't go very granular.

I'm pretty sure @Rockwell75 is fine with you digesting the list however you like?

I don't want her to know how much I have spend on my toys. She never notice that I have new stuff too. I change my DAP from N8ii with bright red Dignis case to N30 AP with grey case and I bet she's oblivious 🤣

Oh trust me, she's noticed something like that. She probably just wants you to be happy - she is letting you take off to CanJam Sg right before Hari after all.

As for expenses, there is no problem, but recently she started reading the forum. I wake up on Sunday and my wife is missing, Ibasso and the mentor are also gone.

HAHAHA, THAT IS AWESOME! 🤣

So after I spend US$159 for 2 box of Baroque eartips, I end up prefer my trusty Spiral Dot++ for my Jewel 🤪
I think it's because the silicon on Baroque are too thin so I feel the music sounds leaner 🙂
What about you guys?

I definitely prefer the Baroque tips, but it's a pain in the ass to get them right now as they are sold out here in the States.

I've really gained a lot of respect for RN6 - it's a great fun iem for me and not trying to sound "correct"; more-so than just trying to be live sounding and engaging. In a way, it's Fir's take on the Z1R with better mids. If Z1R did not exist, I'd likely want to have RN6 in my roster :)

Yeah, it's a bit of a honey badger in that regard. It really doesn't care about what people might want it to be. It just wants to have a good time, and is happy to take us along for the ride.

Can you imagine how different things would be if something like that had come out maybe eight years ago? The resulting alternate history would be completely unrecognizable to us now. :open_mouth:

I know I’m not @Rockwell75

Now that the dust has settled, I still wonder about all the stuff that is missing?

No Love (Forever Changes), no Pogues, no Beach Boys, no Felice Brothers, no Replacements, no Hüsker Dü, no Herbie Hancock, no Wayne Shorter, no Aretha Franklin, almost no Mahler and Billy Joel (Songs In The Attic).... to name just a few that come to mind instantly...

Something will be missing on this island, even if we all could meet each other there.... :)

I think the album as a format is part of the issue with the non-completeness (I don’t think that’s a word but you know what I mean). Lot of the great soul singers of the 60s would have albums as afterthoughts - Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye are two of the best singers of all time bar none - but it wasn’t until the 70s that Marvin put out complete albums and Sam wasn’t around for the album era. I would look to a lot of the box sets (Motowns 40th, the Stax Singles, James Brown Star Time) for better representation from that period.

Maybe Top Ten Artists? And we'd have to coordinate as to avoid duplications.

Or a top ten test track from each of your ten albums.

It's got a beautiful balance of both imho. Lack of sufficient mid-bass oomph/presence is one of my primary deal breakers and the Perpetua does it just right. The signature on the whole is very mature and refined but still very enthralling and engaging-- it's a great DD based pallette cleanser sort of IEM.
How does Singularity compare with Perpetua?
