Yeah Anni is awesome. It does everything well, is super technical and i find it coloured enough to be exciting and fun most of the time. If it were my only iem, I’d probably miss having a more textured bass response and a bit of warmth in the mids though.

Yeah I didn’t mean to imply it was perfect… but it’s probably the closest thing to a single perfect IEM I’ve heard yet.

Yeah it's definitely why I've amassed quite a large collection of tips, pretty much buying any new release the minute I'd hear about them. The combination of the massive difference for fit and comfort, along with the huge difference in sound - much more so than cables in my experience.

Some of my favourite tips over the last couple of years... in no particular order:
  1. SpinFit W1
  2. Acoustune AET07
  3. Spiral Dot++
  4. Symbio W / F
  5. Tanchjim T300 (wide bore)
  6. Azla Short / Standard (in both regular or light variants)

My most popular tips in no particular order:

- Spinfit W1
- ePro EP01 / EP01 TWS
- Spiral Dots++
- Spiral Dots OG
- Azla Crystal / Crystal TWS
- Symbio W Peel
- Whizzer Easytips SS20
- Spinfit CP500
- Acoustune AET07

For quite a while my goal was to find a 3 or 4 IEM setup with a bass, mids, and treble specialist plus an all-rounder/reference. I still regularly contemplate what I would choose if I were to downsize based on that criteria and I think my setup would be:

XE6 (bass)
Mentor (mids)
X or Annihilator (treble)
Jewel (all-rounder)

If I were to cut down to 3 IEM’s I’d probably switch it up and replace XE6 and X/Annihilator with IER-Z1R to make a bass + treble specialist, paired with Mentor as the warm midrange specialist and Jewel still as a reference/all-rounder.

If I boiled even further down to a 2 IEM setup, I’d probably cut out Jewel and just keep Mentor and IER-Z1R. I think between those two, I’d have most things covered for my listening preferences.
I like Mason FS better for Mids than Mentor.

Recently, I found one rules them all: Azla Max Standard.

Well, I took an advantage of the Thanksgiving sales and bought the Westone W80v3 earphones. Just got them in today.
Actually, my first hi fi earphones where W40 back in 2012. I liked them but moved on to higher end stuff. So, I decided to give W80 a try. Especially for 75% off.
And, oh boy, the do deliver. The sound is spacious, the soundstage is huge. Very nice instrument separation. Sub bass is big and very well controlled. Mids are warm and meaty. Vocals sound natural and up close. Highs are extended but not sibilant. Great synergy with more natural sound DAP (Paw6K).
And they are so small and comfy that this is the first IEMs I can sleep with on the side.
My point is, they not too far behind my Jewel, Mentor and Traillii sound wise, but for the fraction of the price and I won't be afraid to take them out and about.
It's a mystery for me why they discounted so much.

Agrees! I had forgotten to list the Azla Max on my list. Absolutely right!

I've yet to really enjoy a 64 Audio IEM actually-- too utilitarian in their tuning approach for me. My favorite treble IEMs are the Elysian IEMs by some distance then the IER Z1R and possibly Elysium.
I have heard nothing but good things about all the 64 Audio stuff, and I'm tempted to check them out, but visually I find them very, well, bland. I know, I know--the sound should be first and foremost. But back when I bought my first (and only) CIEMs, Noble was the only company doing these beautiful, visually gorgeous handcrafted acrylic shells. Nowadays it seems even the cheapest Chinese manufacturers are making their stuff looks beautiful. I'm certain they sound great, but it's hard for me to muster the same level of excitement looking at 64 Audios or Westones that I get looking at any of the Empire Ears stuff, or Thieaudio, or most of Nobles current offerings. My exception there is the ragnar--not certain I could ever bring myself to own them, even at discount. The shells just aren't very interesting visually.

I’ve personally been focused on home/.desktop setups for the last few months but with that complete, you just nailed what may be my 4 IEM target for 2023, with Trailli replacing Jewel in that all-rounder slot.

I say this knowing CanJam NYC could screw up any well-defined initial plans.

I think a lot of it really just comes down to personal preference. The metal shells and somewhat understated look of 64's IEMs I find very nice. Kind of a clean industrial look that I think often seems more high quality than a lot of the resin or acrylic stuff I see. I have a 64 duo and I think it looks great. I do like the idea of some of the blingier stuff, but I also have an Oriolus Szalayi, its blue and has a glitter faceplate. It definitely brings the bling. But it feels cheap by comparison and I just dont really like the look.

Unrelated, I know it doesnt get much or really any love around here, but I keep coming back to my Duo. Its great. Such a pleasant set to listen to. I even popped in my szalayi and it just didnt do it for me. Probably will be going up for sale if anyone is interested.

Also getting a little frustrated with UPS. Yesterday I had a lego order out for delivery in two boxes. Only one arrived. The other showed up today. And today my Custom Art Fibae 5 is apparently out for delivery, but they have already missed the delivery window they originally gave, after originally telling me they expected delivery two days ago. I am getting super anxious to hear them after ordering just over a month ago. Im guessing they probably wont show up till tomorrow. Stupid holiday shopping season messing up deliveries. First world problems I know.
