BTW… Am I the only one who feels it’s weird to be writing about 2023, but feeling like that should be some far off future still? Might be all the 80s music I’ve been listening to recently…

I agree, and I don't really miss lower mids on Z1R.You know, if the IER Z1R had EXT's lower midrange it could conceivably be the "one to rule them all" for me.
Well you know my pick for one and done.Haha hmm… I probably would go with either Jewel, Mentor or X/Annihilator if I were to go down to 1.
1 IEM would mean making a sacrifice somewhere and Jewel would make the least sacrifices on paper but I’d have to consider what works best for the majority of my music library, so based on that I’d probably lean more towards X or Annihilator.
I think Annihilator is a better all-rounder than X so let’s just say Annihilator
Haha, there's a funny story behind that. Another time maybe. What, there is already a SP3000 on classified!

I am stunned that @aaf evo would sell the SP3K

It was to fund something that I wanted to purchase today.
I had planned to eventually get rid of it anyways to put the money towards the Storm, hence why I jumped on the M6 U Black Friday deal.

That makes Supermoon quite the high value for money... Trifecta uni only so to me it's disregardedI've gone all over the map honestly. I've been variously fixated on all the different areas of the FR and technicalities at this point in my journey-- my recent fixation on treble response has been something of the final frontier. I still very much value bass, mids and treble but I've learned a bit more about what my minimal requirements are for each. I still love mids, for example, particularly lower mids-- and Trifecta ticks that box with gusto. What I've really learned there is that I can't handle mids that are veiled or too recessed. After all this time I'm only more certain than ever that I need DD bass to be happy.
My top 5 right now has specialists in bass, mids, treble and technicalities:
1) Ani
2) Trifecta
3) Supermoon
4) EXT
5) Kr5
Mentor is great but the bass is a deal breaker for me (YMMV). Also EXT through a good source is a wholesale upgrade to Mentor to my ears as I prefer its FR and DD nature.
I have been away for a while need to give this a look... although I just went for the Sharona so...

Shanling M6 U... pretty impressive DAP for the price!
The Storm is the upcoming (it's been upcoming for like 9 months now) IEM from Subtonic, which is a company based from Singapore. Generally has really positive impressions from most people who've heard it. CanJam London impressions were sort of lukewarm, but I want to hear it regardless. I've been in contact with them since March or April so I'm far too invested in the time I've spent waiting for it to back out now.

There is still some like new M6 ultra for $7xx, very tempting. But I already got RS2, which is very good for my use (running), otherwise, would pull the trigger.Shanling M6 U... pretty impressive DAP for the price!

Strongly agree. Before I came here, I used to consider several hundreds to spend on IEMs or Headphones is a lot, if not too much. Nowadays after spending some quality time being educated here, I am not even looking at anything less than $1k. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately?) my wife is checking my spending, so far I dare not spend more than $2k on single IEM or headphone.Or get out while you can…

Haha, before I came here and got involved in the community, I thought that my $100 etymotic er2s and sennheiser 579 were insanely fancy... I am now the proud owner of two pairs of kilobuck CIEMs and (im)patiently waiting til I have free income to buy a dap and Cables.Strongly agree. Depends on your use case scenario though. I think anything you use daily--shoes, a proper jacket, headphones--is worth investing proper money in, given that you use it all the time. I can't personally justify, say, ten sets of TOTL IEMs, in part because I simply don't have the disposable income (and kudos to those here that do). But two, or maybe three sets? Sure. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me, especially if the sound is different for each. I'm only at the research stage, but I'm beginning to believe there really isn't any 100% perfect all-rounder headphone. I keep thinking of the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none". Anyway--if you use something constantly, it should be good. I only have one DAP, for example, but it's a $1.5k DAP. It holds my entire music library. I've never regretted having it, except for the rare days where I get too busy at work to use it.Strongly agree. To put it another way: I would rather have one really solid pair of walking shoes than twenty pairs of shoes with worn out soles, if that makes sense.

I am using this for all of my IEMs now. Very comfortable to my ears.Recently, I found one rules them all: Azla Max Standard.
