Just make sure whoever you are buying it from is an authorized seller of the brand. Some are just re-sellers and you can run into issues if warranty claim required.

Good advice! And even then I'm not going to buy any hifi gear here in Vietnam. Impossible to tell what is fake and what isn't. I think it's the only place in the world where you can have 3 Hilton hotels next to each other without even one being the original.
The ACT02 definitely has a lower treble response out of the box. I like that i can swap chambers to match my different output source. Really enjoying this earphone at the moment.. swapping chambers, cables, eartips... so many configs to play around with~
DAP and amp card together are pushing $1200 otherwise it would be a no-brainer. If one came up used I'd be tempted. To buy something new I'm looking to pay on the order of ~$900 on sale for 20% off all in...which is why M6 Ultra is tempting.
Do bear in mind the DX240 is very forward and aggressive. Perfect for 'waking up' excessively polite IEMs but perhaps too much if your IEMs are already a bit shouty in the vocal range. The AMP8MK2 does alleviate this slightly, I find it a little more relaxed than the stock AMP1MK3.
For the size, weight and cost the DX240 with AMP8MK2 is terrific however there is a lack of refinement compared with TOTL DAPs that generally weigh much more.
Yeah that's just it-- a massive brick doesn't suit my use case. Shanling M8 is about my upper limit in terms of weight and size and the current TOTL crop is well beyond that.
Has it ever happened to you that you listen to a pair, you like it, the next track pops up and you are like What is this? oh god, how bad is this pair, then vice versa on the next track lol. I have been listening to the FIR Audio NE4 for the past two days, trying to take some notes, finalize some thoughts, but I am in a dilemma, for some tracks I like the pair to the extent that I get myself grooving to the beats, the next I am like let's switch the IEM to something else, maybe AFUL Performer 5 lol. Oh just for a random information, I have used the NE4 with three different sources, Hiby RS2, Tempotec V6, Shanling M7. M7 is the best pairing imo, RS2 makes it a little boomy.

Yes, it generally is the case when something is tuned too away from natural and accurate tonality. They sound good when their tuning gels with the mix of some songs and not so much when songs require a neutral or at least close to neutral playback to sound their best.

Yep, as @Animagus says, either too far from natural, or too far from your preferences. Many sets are tuned as specialists - either radically boosted bass or mids or treble - trying to stand out from the crowd. If they hit your preferences they're magic, if they don't, you can't get them out your ears fast enough, and start fiddling with sources and tips and cables to try 'fix' them. As long as I understand the sound the IEM is going for, I can generally appreciate the tuning, even if I don't personally like it. This type of thing is the biggest source of debate in many chat groups, with some hyping an IEM to death, and others thinking it's trash. Makes for fun reading but not always fun listening. As a reviewer, find the music that you feel best suits that IEM, and then you'll know how to best describe it.
