I've had Traillii for almost a year now and love them as much as those early honeymoon days... well, after a rough start with tips that almost led to me parting ways! Settling down to some music now after a stressful day at work and they really are fantastic... However, ever since Jewel came on the scene, I've been ultra curious as to how they would compare to the beautiful bird - I hoped to get to CanJam in London but for various reasons, I couldn't make it - so I decided if I couldn't go to the Jewel, the Jewel will have to come to me... lands Monday or Tuesday and I'm now counting the hours!

Oh and this is part of the consolidation I recently referred to, just had to aquire the mystical Jewel first to then decide what happens next. I'd like to think Traillii will have a complementary set in Jewel, and the debate will be on others...

I might have to buy an M9 just because it looks so good in pictures

Right now I am pairing it with PW no 10 8-wire. I haven't done any cable rolling yet.

Seems as good a justification as any! Part of why I love this hobby so much - combines my passion for music, electronics, and very amateur photography! The M9 is indeed a fantastic DAP too.

I am still wrestling with fully defining the differences between the two.

What’s interesting is that they clearly are going for similar tunings (relatively neutral, with a hint of warmth, to my ears.)

Detail level and separation is world-class on both. Ultimately, I feel like the listening experience between the two is quite similar.

And, even though you can bullet out some differences:

- dd bass on the jewel vs ba bass on bird
- wider staging on traillii vs deeper more spherical staging on jewel

…it’s hard to imagine having to choose a favorite between the two. I’m honestly not sure which one I’d pick…

Agree. This is the main reason I am also an IEM guy. Like you said, you can combine hobbies. I can shoot some street photography while listening to music or go for a walk and enjoy nature.

I saw your classified listing. If I were to sell, it would be for same reason. There is no air pressure relief like the Jewel. Sonically it's hard to imagine a significant improvement. It will be interesting when Subtonic & the new EE IEM comes out.
