The HD681 is no match at all for those two, like comparing a hangglider with a F16...

Not quite, but the beat the living daylight out of them, it is by no means a fair match, like Mike Tysion versus Steve Hawkins..

I have spend many years buying cheap phones and when you seach long enough in a scrapheap you will find some gold like HD681 and if you look even more you will find diamonds..

If properly feed and well burntin they rival phones like Senn HD 600/650, AKG 701, Beyer DT880, we just had a danish meet to day and all the participants were quite impressed...

We were 7 guys at hoved-fi (our danish forum) who made a groupbuy and I bought 15 pairs and sold the 8 extra phones in less than a week, all of the buyers have been giving a very positve feedback and I earned a bit og money to feed the ever hungry whole in my pocket called headfi..LOL

If these are better than my HD681's then I'm definitely gonna get them....just need to decide between the Pro80 or the HI2050.  Would you be able to tell me the difference between these two?

They share the drivers, so tecnicaly they are in theory capable of delivering the same sound, the difference lies in the cups and headbands, the headband is pure comfort and look, the cups are very different one closed and one is open..

so signature wise the difference is that the pro80 is more intimate, has a smaller stage, more kick in the bass, and less treble, the isolation also gives a feeling of a more detailed sound, but that is an illusion a powerfull one, but the details are there in the 2050, you just need a more silent place to sit to hear them..

the 2050 has a more open tonality (big surprice) bigger stage, a bit sharper bass, and also has a more lively sound..

I prefer the pro80, but not by a big margin, it is just more pratical with a closed phone, so that my wife does not send me to Gulag or something worse.

It is also a question of the music you prefer, if you like classic music the 2050 is the correct choice, if I knew anything or listened to Jazz it would also be my choice also for the real hevay guys in rock I would prefer the open phone especially if we are talking the fast type..

For classic rock, pop, tecno, pop and most popular music in general I would grab the pro80..

We are not talking huge differenences here, more subtle nuances..

Compared to the HD681 (out of memory) both will deliver a much more comfortable treble, the 681 could be a bit piercing in that area, you will get much firmer and less bloated bass, the mids are a bit more forward in the 2050, in the pro80 it almost takes up the same place and space just better compared to HD681..

If you like the WOWeffect from HD681 the pro80 would be the better choice, the 2050 is more neutral/natural in sound..

It is a great thing to have both LOL

If you could tell me what you think is the weak/strong spots in the HD681, I would get a better picture..
We all hear stuff different and without common ground it is a bit tricky..

My feelings about the HD681 is that it is a phone which  makes you say WOW this is great, when you put them on for the first time, but gets a bit boring in the long run, for the same reasons..

Also the size of your ears might come into play, if you got BIG ears the pro80 is not the most comfortable one, also the pro80 gets warmer, it will not boil you brain like HD681 does, but the 2050 is a better ventilated phone and does not get as hot on the ears as the pro80..

Hi Claus, I am torn between Senn HD598 and the TS PRO 80. Which do you think is better in overall SQ? I am not after aesthetics, Im after only to SQ. I would appreciate if you can share your insight. Thanks in advance

Hard to say, I have heard the HD598 but only very short from a smartphone and making a fair comparrison between those, when I only have been intimate with one of them is not something I want to do, so I wont go into that..
I can only write and compare things I have actually heard, I am a bit strange that way LOL..

What I can say is that the Pro80 is a hard match for any sub 1500$ closed phone and you do pay a bit of royalty for getting the senn name, which is OK, they do make lots of great phones and deserve their place in our hobby..

I had mine plugged into some very good amps yesterday at our danish meet..
Pictures here  http://hoved-fi.dk/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1330

And paired with the really good stuff there they sounded stunning..

I do not know what the HD598 cost, but if they are about the same price I am quite shure that pro80 is the better phone..

I am shure that the pro80 will not dissapoint anyone at their price, which is a factor we have to take into account, in Denmark the HD598 is about twice the price...

So, the pro80's is an upgrade over the 598's? in which aspects?

For the past couple of days I am searching all over the internet for the best headphones. And on some chinese sites I stumbled on some chinese manufacture called "iSK". They have couple of really good headphones in their production line. This model "iSK HP2011", http://www.micsdirect.com/isk_hp2011.htm looks like a PRO80, same ear cups, same cable, but without a case. Driver is 32ohms vs PRO80 60ohms, I cant't find what do they say how it sound.
There is also a "iSK HP2010", which is basically a takstar HD2050, same ear cups, but driver is 60ohms. They should have more bass than the hd2050 due to the 60ohms, but I can't find any review of them http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=13502914741&ali_refid=a3_420435_1006:1103903434:6:isk:0edbb4cd7695f76efff566c8b2eb92ce&ali_trackid=1_0edbb4cd7695f76efff566c8b2eb92ce

This model also has catch my attention "iSK HP-980",  http://www.swamp.net.au/studio-monitoring-headphones-closed-back.html , but I can't find much informations or review on any or the english sites. I found on the chinese sites and with the help of a google translator it seems they don't have enough bass. But I am not sure. It's also 32ohms.

All of them are on the market for more than a year and can be bought directly from china at about the same price as the HD668B. HP-980 is the most expensive of all of them. Did anyone tried any of those? Thanks

Edit:
I opened a new thread about this :)  http://www.head-fi.org/t/598234/chinese-iks-headphone-manufacture

As stated in my post, the quoted lines you used is just my gut telling me so...

I do not know the HD598 well enough to make a comparrison that would be fair to both parties...

What I can say is that I was much more impressed the first 5 minutes by the pro80 than I was with th HD598, but that is only the initial impressions, the HD598 could be the better phone, but I doubt it..
But judgeing which is better on a 5 minutes trial is not really fair, some phones grow on you and you need to learn how they sound to value them..

Thanks for the quick insight Claus. I browsed your thread about TS Pro80 and I'm sure this beast will give me a better listening experience and will save my wallet as well.

If you buy them I would love to read your impressions, if in a separate thread I would love a link here, as I do not spend hours upon hours here, I am the owner of the danish forum I keep linking to and it is very timeconsuming, so I only go on here to see my subscribed threads and sometimes to search a bit to see what is new and exiting..

Also to stay in touch with some old friends here..
