Yes I ordered like 2 weeks ago and was surprised about the pricing as well. And just in case people don't know. it is part number 092815 for 11.82 but shipping is like 6 dollars for me.

So how do you place the order for the grills?  They don't show up on the parts and accessories lists for the HD600.

Picked up the 580 when they were being discontinued and they are still my go-to phones. You can see all the phones that I have had, but the 580 is still the best!

As long as you can order the parts, on the web, or via your dealer, or over the phone, don't matter, just so long as you can get them ...

So my appreciation of the HD580 started last night when I received a modded pair (grills and cable) and popped in some of my favorite CD's and to quote the OP "I was floored with the kind of sound they made."

I am not sure I can add much to the conversation other than to chime-in in hearty agreement.  For me this was an upgrade from the HD555's and I was puzzled about how much better a headphone could be.  Then came the dawn after a few minutes of listening. The detail, soundstage and tonal balance were all represented better on the 580s.

The journey started by asking for recommendations on an amp suitable for the 555s.  Rather than recommending an amp, in one of the first replies I was told to upgrade the phones first and the 580s were recommended.  While that was not what I was wanting to hear after just buying the 555s, it turns out that it was the right recommendation.  I did get an amp, but absolutely the best improvement in sound quality - and enjoyment was getting the 580s.  The fact that this thread has spanned 5 years is testament to their stature.

The hd580s are a reference headphone at an entry level price. After all of these years, there's still not a better value for a full sized headphone. And yes, no matter what others may say, the biggest improvement is "always" upgrading your headphones. 100.00 headphones always will sound like 100.00 headphones. A 1,000.00 amp wont make them sound like 1000.00 headphones.

Have been completely out of audio with no system for a number of years, and have just ordered an HD600. I chose the 600 due to a familiarity with the 580, which was my first serious phones. Have owned a number of great phones, including the K501, A-T ATH-W2002, and HD650. Will use the 600 to fine tune a new system, in a process of mixing and matching components till I get it right.

Another happy HD580 owner here! I recently picked up a pair in great condition. I swapped out the grilles for HD650 grilles and it is one great looking headphone. It's a HUGE upgrade coming from my HD555's. Other headphones I've owned are HD280's and ATH-AD700's. The HD580's are my favorite of the bunch by far. Currently playing FLACs from my Macbook Pro - > Nuforce uDac and it seems to be driving them pretty well. Here's a pic:

I grabbed a pair of used 580s just the other day that are in transit to me. I've also ordered the 650 chord and 600 grills. Can't wait to get these all hooked up to my HUD-MX1 which is currently in transit too LOL

This will be my first can setup and I am super excited!

Nice picture, btw, jgleit.

Tbh, I have been listening to my K501 and FA-003 more.. but that is mainly because I am waiting for Sennheiser to send me the 600 grills before I really give them a thorough listen vs. it's competition. Already have the 650 cord on it.
