Sony F1...it's like Senn meets K1000 then produces F1

Have not tried a Sony can yet, what do you think about 701's?

I had just about every top of the line production headphone and I will say 701 is extremely neutral and detailed....but boring. No matter what amp I had at the time (both tube and SS amps)...the basic flat sound didn't change.

This is my first Sony headphone that cost more than $100 and I am surprised how good they are. Then again...Sony did make the R10...the King

Anyone on the fence for an HD580, now's pretty much the last chance! I just purchased mine from a Proaudiomart on ebay (just search for hd580). There's only 2 left! I can't wait to get my pair and hear them. My KSC75s have severed me well, but now I need something more comfortable.

Yeh, I think I bought the first pair out of that last batch of 5. But you never know, the seller has sold a fair few batches of them over the last little while. I'd bet even money he might possibly dig up some more early next year!

I just snagged the last of the "new" hd580 that brianf had for sale on eBay. Thanks for pushing me in this direction in time!

EDIT - Looks like that was just a batch of em....plenty more there now.

Wow, this thread has been around for along, LONG time... haven't heard HD580s now for awhile, but my setup is probably too warm to sound good with them (tweaked for DT880s). Of course, a simple cable/opamp swap would probably change that... hmmm

I got a HD580 from brianf as well. I got 2 HD580's now. I had to get the second one as a backup hehehe

I tried to talk my brother into getting one and he bought a hd595 and is a bit disappointed now...oh well!

Be sure to report back on that, please. Getting ready to build a mini^3 myself and I seem to have seen Ti mention the gain 5 worked well for his HD650s in the build thread over at HeadWize. I'd love to hear confirmation.

Same here - I am now waiting for my order from Digi-Key to build/assemble my mini^3 as well. I have had my 580's for almost 6-7 years now, but since I travel often and plan to use my Triple 10's most often, I am building my mini^3 with a gain of two.

I though about setting up the mini^3 with a higher gain to be able to drive the 580's better, but you don't need much gain with the Triple 10's, so my plan is to do another DIY project and build a home-based (non-portable) amplifier for the 580's instead of asking the small amp to work with both of my headphones.

For the non-portable project, I might build a home-version of the mini^3, the M^3, a PIMETA, β22, or something else - I have not decided yet, but I am in no hurry either

I just received a pair of HD580 that I bought in the sale forum here. While I listen mostly to Rock. I have a fair amount of Jazz and Classical. I'm hoping these phones will get a good workout when I'm in the mood for something lighter.
