The PENON official thread

I brought the Os849 today intended for the Serial. Will share later...

Improvements very apparent using the 849. Bass physicality increased without muddying upper bass lower mids transition, mids -added body as well as extended treble and added body as well. I still prefer the Serial on any Prefab tracks, the upper trebles are not excessive.

Here's a very detailed, fun track on the Serial 849. Like having 2 subs and a pair of tower speakers...

thanks for the comparison, I was debating between the Serial and 3DT and end up ordering the Serial last week. Based on your description, maybe a silver cable can help close the gap to 3DT in terms of attacks and treble air and sparkle.

To be brutally honest - no. I own two excellent and quite different pure silver cables from Penon - the Leo and Flow - and if anything, silver only amplifies the very slight “softness”, particularly in the low end, without adding weight or heft to it.

In any case, the difference is much more subtle than I might have made it seem. I honestly don’t think this aspect would likely trouble most people unless they have played the said instruments for a very long time or are otherwise intimately familiar with their sound.

Yes, silver does help with treble air and sparkle, but that will happen anyway with burn-in (I can sometimes be agnostic about burn-in, but I don’t deny that it has clear effects on DDs and planars).

The stock cable (CS819) is excellent and well chosen for the Serial but if you or anyone else feels like switching it up, I personally find hybrid cables like the PAC480 to have better synergy.

3DT arrived, won't stray off topic in Penon thread but 1st impressions are excellent, much as @-rowan- described. Serial, 3DT I suspect are both superb and validate the 3 dynamic approach!

Glad you’re enjoying the 3DT! There’s still space in my collection for mine, even with the Serial around. (Also, I suspect the 3DT isn’t that OT here as it seems, as it’s such a natural candidate for comparison with the Serial - they’re practically two sides of the same coin…)

Triphoprisy!! I miss that.

This one’s a job for the Serial.

Pity disc 2 isn’t floating around somewhere…

Thanks for this recommendation. Have to look more into them. They seem impressive. Nice size and not too hard on the wallet. Would you say they would fill a 15 x 15? room with the help of a sub?
That's 4.5 x 4.5 m (15 x 15'), correct?
Yes, the Sub will have your bottom presence.

I did a table comparison of the Serial and Aladdin for someone in the Lokahi thread:

As always, spot on.
I use Serial on bright albums, including ALL Lorde albums
Yeah, for 60s, 70s recordings, productions including 70s style productions (Stone Roses, etc) a brighter set is preferable by most.
With the above mentioned condition, only die hard vinyl junkies (such as me) can give a hall pass to the Serials for playing 60s, 70s albums and can get away with a little less resolving top end...

Do tell more about how CEMA Palace plays with the Serial :)

They will have just returned from their Chinese New Year holiday which would explain the last 2 weeks or so but I wouldn’t try to account for the silence before that. Good luck with the return and keep us posted how it turns out. The Leo is an excellent cable and a longtime favourite of mine and I imagine the Plus is even better.

I’m ready :)
Continuation of my episode of the Leo Plus cable. Arrived in Hong Kong on 06-12-2021 and still no return and the last answer from Penon Audio was on 20-01-2022 and since silence?
I do not understand?

Awful. Sorry to hear. Hong Kong post, if to USA, quite poor service.
I urged Penon not to use or at least give customers an option at checkout to select and pay for more reliable carrier

20220316_145945.jpg

just arrived after 2 weeks. only tested if it works and sounds quite muted. burn process starts

Muted, Dull, muffled from zero to a few minutes - that's the norm.

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-penon-official-thread.934523/post-16857860

By the time these albums possess
Textured, sub woofer level (not annoying - they got their own space in the 3d imaging) bass, neutral, detailed mids, very reasonably crisp, sparkly, extended treble
That means weathering's done, continue to enjoy the music.
Kindly note, Serials are not bright hot, they're naturally bright, not harsh...

I use Sedna Earfit standard - the wide bore grey stem tips and currently LEO Plus - Now I got a more, prominent very deep stage
From the 1st compilation album...
