Love OM. They're way overdue for a new album, it's been five years. Hopefully soon.

That vintage gear does look well suited for trad metal & doom. Here's a few things of interest.

Epic progressive folk metal from Morrisville, Pennsylvania.

Dreadnought from Denver are an interesting mix of avant prog, psych and black metal, out Fri.

Spirit Adrift is one of my recent epic doom faves from Arizona, on 20 Buck Spin label with Magic Circle and Khemmis.

Also looking forward to the latest from Sweden's Sorcerer on Oct 20.

Im a big metal fan,but more importantly a huge music fan.
Tom Petty was an amazing song writer.I will miss his music.
I was never a fan, but it still sucks. A lot of the people I grew up with really dug his music.

I could have sworn someone here had mentioned being a fan of Finnish psych-prog noir group Jess and the Ancient Ones, but I can't find it in search. Maybe it was Blood Ceremony or Purson instead? Jex Thoth, The Oath/Lucifer? At any rate, while they are not necessarily interchangeable, they all do have similarities in some psych influences and good female leads. And I'm really stoked for the upcoming third full length from Jess and the Ancient Ones, The Horse And Other Weird Tales. It's out Dec 1, but I got an early promo and lovin it. Takes some of the sting out of Purson breaking up (though Rosalie Cunningham wrote all the parts and performed nearly all the instruments on the last album, so she'll be fine on her own or with a new lineup).

I'm guilty of liking all those bands. Jess and the Ancient Ones is a special band, though. Love their stuff!!!

Monolord is dominating my listening for the past week. I simply think it's their best record, and that they have finely honed and perfected their writing and production. The bass tones are insane, and I love the way they recorded the drums. It's one of those albums that I get done with it, and then go right back to the beginning again. Which has happened a lot this year! :)

Be sure to grab this EP from last year too if you haven't already:

Did you check out Spirit Adrift? I love it even more, considering going to Philly to see them at the Decibel Beer & Metal fest next spring.

Oh heck yes. I've been a sucker for Monolord since I saw "Empress Rising" on Youtube. I dug the video, and have bought every release as soon as I could. I think they are the best pure, straight-ahead DOOM band out there right now. I know the music can be a bit dense and repetitive for most people, but they are masters of subtle tone and effect.

I really dig the constant "Planet Caravan"-style vocals. It makes every song a nod to 1970 Ozzy.

Listening to "Vaenir" as I type this. Epic in every way!!!!

Just changed to Spirit Adrift. Gawd, I love Tidal...

I've been using Doom for meditation and spiritual practice for about 25 years, but this takes it to a whole new level. And here I thought I was the only one...which is a great Rotors to Rust song, BTW :)

I saw another piece along those lines a while back, not sure if it's the same studio. They should use Om and Bong!

Did you read Spirit Adrift's Nate Garrett's story of finding sobriety and enlightenment with doom? https://www.decibelmagazine.com/201...-interview-with-spirit-adrift-s-nate-garrett/

Holy cow! I am totally freaking out, like I seriously thought I was the only one! Long, strange tale, to be sure. But all of a sudden I have a whole bunch of links to a spiritual practice I stumbled upon in solitude (fitting, eh!) 25 years ago. It's like I just found out there really is a Satan Claus... :)

ps: I hope everyone gets the joke...
