I've been looking at a few used pairs of late, they seemed reasonably priced at around $750 Canadian...but now I have my doubts........Guess it was bound to happen....the copies are out....buyer beware. :triportsad:

oh my, they have started faking the S version. At least the ad advised that it was indeed a DIY version.

$75 is not reasonably priced it is a crazy low price. Obviously fake, but thanks for sharing. :)

Sorry if I may not have made myself clear...yes they are obviously copies , in fact the Aliexpress seller even says so, I'm bringing it up for the attention of potential buyers as unfortunately some unscrupulous individuals will now buy them and (will) pass them off as legit ie800Ss.
When I say reasonable for used, I've seen used here in Canada for $750 (MRSP $1299) and unless the seller bought them direct from Sennheiser or an authorized dealer one may be taking a chance on getting the real thing.
I still see fake ie800s (that were bought for maybe less than $30) still being pawned for hundreds more on Ebay.......so one can only assume.......
...for examp.....

The S version will be easier to fake due to the low profile look compared to the original 800. The main difference of the fake from the original IE800 were the (1) cable (original had a more darker green cable), (2) Nozzle (original had a more secure tip connection, fake ones already loose after a few days/months of use), (3) the 2 holes dampener or chambers(whatever that is called), on the original they were evenly flushed to the holes, look more seamless, where on the fake ones they are noticeably not properly aligned.

I see - the existence of obvious but realistic-looking fakes now causes you to question the authenticity of other, more reasonably-priced, used items elsewhere.

Do we know the product pictured in the DIY IE800S ad is actually fake? It's not unusual for fake watch listings to show the real watch in the ads, to fool prospective buyers into thinking the fake looks more authentic than it does.

I got mine from a non audiophile person new for $400 just this February. Sometimes, there are really bargain deals but if you don’t know what to look for, you may be conned.

............ for fake watch listings to show the real watch in the ads, to fool prospective buyers into thinking the fake looks more authentic than it does.

I don't know if we can actually call them fakes, copies for sure as the sellers from China are stating they are "almost 98%" as good as the authentic ones.....the Chinese are definitely making great stuff but the authentic ie800S are made and tested in Germany, and because of probably way over priced compared to what the rest of the world has to offer.
Anyway just wanted to give folks a heads up...especially if they are being sold without box and all the extras except for 3 pairs of ear tips.
