I guess your T1 should measure close to mine.
I have both HD800 and T1 and while the HD800 is typically more analytical and provides a bigger stage, the T1 almost always manages to sound more organic and natural.
HD800 is a technical monster but it's dry and steely with many recordings. It's normally easier to connect with the music using the T1 and that's why it's often considered a better all-rounder.

My serial number is 7716.

Which type of first generation would my T1's fall in? Do you know the specifics of of each range of serial numbers, like from 1000 to 5000 were bright or from 8000 to 15000 were warmer, etc?

No, there's no absolut range.
Tyll measured a T1 with SN 39xx and it was warmer than earlier models. So best chances are you don't have a bright T1 or one with awful channel matching.

I made a comparison of the T1's and AD2000X with some songs on the respected thread here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/631998/audio-technica-updates-their-open-headphones-ad-series-ad2000x-ad1000x-ad900x-ad700x-and-ad500x/2100#post_13269682

Finally got around to re-terminate my T1s with a 4pin XLR balance plug and also hacked together a converter cable to plug into my Sony Walkman. The T1s still sounds bloody damn good.

Well i happenned to me

I don´t recall pulling my T1 original cable so much, but i did have some pulls over the years, mainly it being pulled with my chair when i get off my desk.

But then, suddenly my right ear cup died

I panicked and right away open it up to check for disconnections, but everything was connected and well strapped.

So after checking centimeter by centimeter of it´s cable i found a section that presented static and reconnections when i squeezed it.

Cut it off and re did the terminations, and "why not" did the cable mod (removed the shield cables) too.

Phew ! Everything is good once again

I traded my T1 for a audio technica AD2000X

What do you think of the AD2000X in comparison to the T1's in terms of sonic performance?

T1 is an amazing headphone. SO SO clear and detailed, fast and clean. I agree with many here they have some magic in them. Vibrant and alive describes the sound well. They wake you right up.

Yeah, sometimes the treble shimmers/sparkles a touch too much, and sometimes I want them to give me a bit more bass, but at the same time, the sound signature as they are is crystal clear and is very, very special. It is beautiful.

Vocals and acoustic sounds sound so real and the highs just soar.... ah so lovely.

Oh yeah and I run them right into a macbook air. No external amp required and they sound incredible.

Someone can just buy these with a 3.5 mm adaptor cable for a reasonable price and get premium sound for a not so premium price. Just a real treat for the ears are these T1's.
