It’s quite scary that $6k seems to be becoming the new normal for flagships. It’s going to get to the point where you think to yourself, shall I buy a brand new Porsche or save up a bit more money and buy the latest IEM? 😃🙄
To be fair it's only the Bird and the new UM. The usual suspects are still hovering around the $3K-$4K range. And the cable debate is very relevant, because right now that's what's making the $4K to $6K jump. If EE can release a bona fide flagship for $3.4K with a $1200 cable, then so can others. If you add a $2K cable to any of the other flagships (Fourte, Noir, Erlky, Thummim...) Then we've been at ~$6K since 2017. The day they start selling flagships for $6K without a kilobuck cable, that's when we need to take pause.

PS. This cable story seems to be a very IEM thing. Even the $4K+ full size headphones ship with $300 cables at best, and many don't bother upgrading them.

I've had or seen most totl headphones, and all of them have cheap arse cables. Even the base level 1266 comes with utter trash of a thing.

D8000 Pro chuck in a thick weird silver thing that is meant to be expensive, but it really isnt to the same standard as a custom cable.

The stock cable of the 1266 TC is rather unwieldy and I'm not using it. If bought separately (not sure who would), it goes for 1200 euros though..

I am looking for a U12t in perfect condition (Europe).
If someone has one to sell, or knows someone who has it, can contact me.

The point is, justify a jump in price by 2k because the cable costs 2k is a big marketing thing. The cable doesn’t cost that to them as buying on bulk. This is just a way to increase the margins and lots of people still thinks is a good deal.

I doubt 100% of the people that bought one of those bundled deals would buy those cables separately if that was the case.

And uses $5 Neutrik connector and a base cable where the jacket is oddly loose over wore. Weird!

Good point there. If I take the Legend X and PWA 1950’s combo that I use then at retail costs we are looking at $2,300 for LX and $2,150 for 1950’s. The package coming in therefore at $4,450 and getting close to these new high prices that we are seeing.

But YOU chose the IEM and cable. Also decide if you want to spend that much on a cable, if you feel the cable… back to the whole discussion about cables. That’s the point.

I have several IEMs, but my most expensive is Legend X / Tia Trio at $2300. I bought the Legend X on sale for slightly under $2000 and Tia Trio was bought when it was on sale for 30% off. I set my cap at $2000. Yes, there are $6000 IEMs, but I have my cap. We all have caps. I also don't buy $80,000 plus automobiles. I don't buy $700,000 homes.

Some say, I could have bought top of the line IEMs with what I have in my current IEM collection, but then I would have one or two and I like to have several sound options as I like all kinds of music and music presentations.

is it a norm for 64audo A-series to take nearly 2mths of build time?

That sounds right with almost all Custom IEMs. with some exemptions or a rush build extra cost.

64 and EE take a while, you tend to get about 2 weeks if you pay for rush. Currently have an order placed with JH and it’s been over a month (the design is quite complicated though) - it generally takes ages. That’s the worst part of the CIEM experience, by the time they put the IEMs together I’ve already kinda gotten over whatever I’ve ordered haha
