It would be more fun to play scissors, paper, rock to decide.

Did you try U18 with 2wire or 4wire 1960? All just a matter of personal taste, but I wasn't too crazy about either pair ups since it makes sound a bit too revealing at the top. I do like stock cable, but constantly swap between PWA No5 and EA Ares II, and at the current moment Ares II is my favorite. No5 gives you that bass, but top end becomes a little too smooth. Ares II keeps the bass (with a touch less impact in comparison to No5) and the sparkle of upper mids/treble without pushing it over the threshold of harshness. Again, my ears have higher level of sensitivity to upper frequencies (and I'm using silicone tips, not foams, and M20 module), so I don't guarantee everybody will hear the same.

4wire, cant really describe the sound as I am not a technical guy but it is really a superb pairing:)

Fourte or U18? Damn I am struggling to decide. Will eventually get both, but which first. Decisions, decisions....

you want others to decide for you based on their preference, or make your own decision based on what YOU prefer?

I agree with Alex that A18 is best paired with a (simple) copper cable. A18 is tuned with a significant lift in its lower treble that gives it that exciting sound, but it puts some limitations on pairings. With the RW AK380 I find silver or silver-gold cables to sound harsh. However, it also depends on the source as Sony WM1Z pairs excellently with brighter iems, and I even enjoy the M15 module more (with the AK it sounds a bit clinical). But basically, I find the A18 a perfect example where more expensive in terms of cables, does not mean better. Unless you can afford a SilverFi IEM-R4 or R5, in that case it is way better :D

The Forte is really a nice iem, I actually look forward to getting home from work to listen again. I haven't heard the U18, but judging from all the positive remarks I've read, it must be awesome as well. I just really wanted to buy the Forte first, I'm glad I did.

In deepth comparaison between U18 and Fourté ? anybody ? Please do not oblige me to buy booth [/QUOT

I have the Fourte for more than 1 month now.

I absolute love them. Before I had the U12, but the Fourte ar so an improvment over the U12.

Also i prefer them over the Focal Elear I also own.

Wax issues be gone!!!! Another important advantage of the new tia system on the 18/Fourte that is often overlooked is the lack of individual boars for each BA. Gone are the days of having to pick wax out of the holes to regain lost SQ. While this was a small issue for me, over time, there would be some small build up that would grow until it gets so bad you start to ask, what happened to the sound? That meant that between cleanings there was a small loss of SQ over time. The buildup was so small that constant cleaning was not reasonable.

With the tia system mesh screens, the SQ remains at optimal levels since blockage is not an issue.

No I am just procrastinating and having a bit of fun. My plan was to get the Fourte as I historically prefer Dynamic bass to BA bass. However after listening to the U18 the other day I am super impressed by it. It's a win win situation either way. I am fortunate that I am in the position to pull the trigger on one of them, will pick up the other in November after bonus time :L3000:.

And how do you clean mesh if it gets more ear wax over time?
You throw the whole thing, cables and everything - maybe even your DAP and your shoes - into a pot of boiling water for an hour, then scrub with copper bristles, and repeat............:imp:
