The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

The way I do it is simply create a folder for each itunes playlist. Drag and drop all the songs in playlist A (itunes) to folder A, Playlist B to folder B etc. On AK100 when u want playlist A, go to folder slection and pick folder A

When you add more songs to your itunes playlist, drag and drop in to it's corresponding folder on AK100 and it will say XXXX songs already exist, do u want to copy them anyway? select No and only the new songs will copy

after you set it up initially, consequential syncs are literally a drag and drop away, extremely easy

How is the battery life on mark 2

If money is no issue which player would you get. dx90 or ak100 mark 2?

AK100mk2 is basically just the ak100 with the high output impedance issue resolved.  It is still basically 1st gen ak product.   DX90 will sound better for most people.  The main reason to get the old AK line is the small form factor.   They are also slicker and more polished in form.   Ibasso products tend to be more clunky.  A compromise might be the ak120. [I think the 100 is better than the dx50.]

If money is no issue: AK240

FWIW, unless you're gonna step up to the 100ii (as opposed to the mark 2), I think the DX90 is a good choice.  A friend let me listen to his DX90 the other day & I was impressed with it, though I still prefer the RWAK100-S & my new 120ii.  =)

All - any idea how to force reset the AK100? It's stuck on the Connected to USB DAC screen and no controls are responding. I had it connected as Windows Youtube DAC.

Later edit: For anyone wondering the same, you need to remove the 2 screws at the bottom and then remove the back plate out, pushing it out through the screw holes and finally remove the battery. To remove the battery the connector slides out - it super tiny so be careful.

AK reset and rebooted back with no issues whatsoever.

Or press Power and Back at the same time.

I reckon for most intents and purposes this is the easier way. But hey I got to see what's inside. :) The batery takes like 80% of the space.

Wonder if there are aftermarket batteries. Not that I need one at the moment, it still lasts forever at the rate I am using the AK.

Regarding the battery, it has been asked before but no one seems to have the answer.  Did you happen to write down the battery model number?  That could help us track down a source for a replacement battery.  I could use one myself after a couple of years.

Someone uses AK100 with an external dac-amp?
I would like to improve the sound quality and the ability to drive headphones from 150-300 ohms.
Have you something to recommend?
Please, do not answer chord hugo, is way too expensive for my pocket! :)

I do - but it's the Gloveudio A1 and it's a dac and amp.

I can recommend the Cayin C5 - oodles of power. 880 mW in 32 Ohms. Sounds amazing with my HD650. And it's only $169 sometimes lower.

Cheers,
K

I also went the Glove Audio A1 route. Lots of power and balanced output too!
