Yes,that at was wrong. You can't use the C5D as a DAC and Amp in the case of the AK100 as the C5D has no optical input. But you can use the normal Headphone output and connect it to the C5D line in to use the C5D amp. Remember to switch the headphone output to line out in the settings of the ak100. But also remember to switch that back and control your volume before using the ak100 alone again.
I have read all the pages on the AK100 Mk2 thread but not this main AK100 Mk1 thread which is oh-so-long. Can owners answer this for me as I'm thinking of picking up one Mk 2 second hand? I have also posted on the Mk 2 thread.
Q1 - Can the two micro SD card slots now take 128 GB?
Q2 - I'm a Mac user. Can I just drag-and-drop files onto the SD cards using a card reader, or must I use some AK software?
Q3 - I understand the UI is slightly slow compared to the newer generation DAPs but I presume it's acceptable to someone who, like me, tends to select full albums to listen rather than shuffle tracks?
Q4 - I use custom IEMs most of the time and sensitive ones at that. I presume the drop from 20 ohms to 3 ohms would then be beneficial? (So I read, not that I fully understand).
sd cards must be formatted before, not during files copying.
Anyway, if ak100 freeze building the library, is very likely that there is some tag that does not like...
At this point, the problem is to identify the problematic file
1st, i did not formatted the sd card during the copying process. I saw the sd cards is in formatted condition using FAT32. I read somewhere that micro sdxc cards need to be format using x-FAT. Is it true?
2nd, you may be right about file format or tag that could not be played by the ak100. I will have to find it one by one.
You can use ex-fat formatting if your ak100 is updated to the last FW build.
Otherwise you have to use a tool like guiformat for example, to format in fat32
That is normal. It has to rebuild the entire internal db every time any file is added or removed. I doubt any existing issues will be addressed as iriver has moved on to the newer devices.

I have no problems with the AK100 and the AK100MK2 running with 2 64GB mSD cards.
The AK100Mk2 runs FW 2.41 and the AK100Mk1 on FW2.40 it seems that's it. 2.41 is only released for the special Japanese version:

That has a special "PRO Equalizer" setting - I tried and it's so subtle, I have no idea what it does so I leave it off. Other than that it's the same FW. It says that my sapphire blue version is a "sound quality enhancement model: Astell & Kern AK100MKII LTD Sapphire Blue
There seem to be no plans to ever update this player again - but funny enough it's still being sold, so it should be supported better....but then - it all works maybe there is nothing else to do....
I love my AK100 and Ak100 mk2 - they sound great. Have a great UI and are easy to use and light to carry and solidly build.
OK., You're obviously a coder, so, tell us - how would you rejig the device's firmware/the way its databasing works in order to solve this (non) issue ? Or are you merely here to have a whinge for the sake of it like 99.99999999999999999999999999999% of people who whinge on this site (and there are more whingers per capita on this site than anywhere else on the internets) ?
FWIW, I'm running 2x128GB cards + the internal storage at approximately 75% full all up, and this just isn't an issue.

Does the UI lag with both 128gb cards near full capacity?
My friends AK120 with both 128gb cards lags quite a lot in the UI scrolling + responsiveness.

It's about organising your files if you've got that many I.E folders. If you fill single folders with thousands of files, then yes, you're going to get lag.
