I had also read that Toslink had a ceiling and didn't support 24/192 so one evening I hooked up a Toslink to a spare port on my receiver and tried it out with my AK100 MK2. Everything I threw at it played including 24/192, which I thought would not work.
Hence why I said typically and dependent on implementation. Good optical tech can do very high transfer rates, ie communications fibre, but if toslink was an after thought or uses throw in tech then it can usually handle 24/96 but not 24/192. Which I suppose means the AK line uses great toslink tech
Well in that case it's a toss up. The ER-4P would become middle ground between the P and S. The W4R would lose a little bit of the midbass hump and level out. Could be good or bad depending on your goals. The mk2 is the safer choice either way but at a premium.
So the Sony zx1 is receiving a lot of good reviews although I was initially planning to get the AK100mk2 with the added capability to use it as an external dac. Would like to get feedback from AK100/120 owners whether zx1 is really better than AK sound quality wise or is zx1 fotm? Thanks
