Yay!!!!  Gapless on my RWAK100...  About time, and not at all surprised it took a non-iRiver released solution.  My trance & live albums are listenable on my portable rig now.  So happy,  Now, about that lineout mod Vinnie is working on....

Got gapless. Good. Thanks iRiver, not. We could have had it a long time ago.

firmware transplant complete...

iRiver should be ashamed of their business practices...

handicap the 100 to sell the 120...talk about blatantly planned obsolescence

so BUSTED...!!!

Dude, I sure hope you're not expecting me to put this firmware on both the MS-AK100 & RWAK100 for tomorrow's meet :p. I intended to do it after the meet. Or if you do, then I can too.

All,

Unless the software changes how the audio is
processed or how it configures the dac, it shouldn't
change the sound.

But if one measures the output voltage (e.g. of
a 1kHz sine wave) at the same volume setting
between the stock and modified software versions
AND it does show a different voltage level - then this
can explain why some are hearing a difference.
I'll test this tomorrow night when I am home.

AFAIK, the only differences between the AK100
and AK120 are: 32GB vs. 64GB, dual dac vs
single, and slightly larger battery/ enclosure.
So it would make sense that the AK120 software
would work on the AK100 (after some copy/paste
of parts of the code). So nice job whoever in Russia
discovered this.

Now I sure hope iRiver tries it, proves it out, and
releases the update for their AK100 customers who
have been patiently waiting. There are still going to
be people who will buy the AK120 for the extra
32GB, dual dac, lower output impedance, and
whatever else I'm missing.

Vinnie

lol I hear ya! This is pretty sweet. I wonder if they could get playlist support (m3u) working properly. :) Gotta love those Russians. Very crafty people.
