Great review Peter.

If you could say that the ckr9 sounds most like another IEM you've heard, what would it be?

Thanks in advance friend.

Thanks Vince

Good question, I honestly don't know. I think that what's makes some IEM's (and headphones as well) to be really speical, not really sounding too similar to something else I mean (or at least not sounding like anything I've heard is probably more correct). If i turn it around they're the first IEM's I enjoy as much as the Havis and those ticks most of my boxes so they do have similarities but they certainly don't sound the same if that makes sense.

The more I think about your question the more frustrated I get. I'll try to explain a bit more and see if you (or anyone else) will be able to help me out. There's something in the sound on the Havi B3's, CKR9/10, Fidelio X2's and even the Q701's that makes them more enjoyable to me compared to other, also very solid offerings, like the Titan 1 or the DT880. I don't know if it's timber, more depth or a slight warmth but this is what makes me put the former over the latter. They just feel more "organic" in their presentation if that makes sense, I really don't know how to put it in words but I'd guess you've noticed through my rant

I've read several people calling the CKR9 a GR07BE on steriods or a direct upgrade but for some reason I've never heard them so I can't comment on that

@Hisoundfi
et al. Just wondering. When you decide to do a review on your own (ie not provided by a distributor/manufacturer), how do you even decide what to pick? Just read what ever buzz you can find? Throw at dart at a webpage printout of gear?
I pick the stuff people are curious about, and what I feel would be a good contribution to the Head-Fi community.

Some people on Head-Fi will post overly positive reviews simply because they got something for free. I don't ever want that to be the case with any review I write.

I'm a fan of good earphones, and this a hobby of mine. I want to share where the best stuff is at the best price.

I always wondered when people are spending their own money, how they chose what to review. There is soooo much available now - seems like a dozen new chinese iems every week.

unless of course you're secretly one of those 1% folks and don't have to worry bout throwing your money round

Or maybe this gem from Aldous Huxley

Then there's the Debussy pearl: "Music is the silence between the notes."

Haku you have any coverage of the meet?

Getting to it. Just did an update on my R70x review with comparisons to the K7XX and HD650. Taken me the better part of the day (am off), but the listening was fantastic!

Oh, and today's lab:

That little switcher thing I picked up recently ROCKS! So easy switching back and forth between headphones; headphone off, next one on, flick the switch, and continue listening.

That Macaw earphone, Fidue A65, 71 TI-TECH, A73, the Penon IEM since it was $10 and couldn't resist the DN2000J on Massdrop.  Oh yeah, the E80 too.  Always been a fan of Soundmagic.

Excellent! No impulse control. You're a Labster!
