UD100 review is here.
I am not saying 24/96 DAC doesn't provide audible improvement as some of these DAC does have superior design, but it hardly has anything to do with whether it is 16/48 or 24/96 (or 24/192), but more to do with optimizing a particular topology / circuit design to perform at its best. Saying 24/96 must be better is like saying airplane must be better than car as transport, when all you need is to go to 3 block away for grocery.

+1. Great analogy !

To anyone interested in buying HM5 pads, take a look at the Jaycar Pro Monitor Headphones. They're $50, but they're completely identical to the BRAINWAVZ HM5 and the Fischer Audio FA-003 (made in the same factory [Yoga, in Taiwan] with the same components, and they have the same carrying case). They come with a spare set of pads. Would you want to spend $17 for pads, or $50 for the second best value in audiophilia (HA-S500s coming first, obviously), and "HM5" pads for your JVCs?

Additionally, Fischer Audio released velour pads for their FA-003. They'll obviously fit the HA-S500s, so now it's just a matter of finding a place to get them.

Thanks for this info. Considering one has to get a carrying case to protect HA-S500s anyway, this Jaycar option is the most cost effective to date.

Was looking around and found this deal here "http://www.sonicelectronix.com/search.php?action=search&keyword=HA-S400" with free shipping to the states. Not fully sure if this is a legit deal but just throwing it out there.

This may or may not be my last S500 vs. *insert can here*, but how do these compare against the CAL!? I just want to run through all options before pulling the trigger
The S500 is supposed to dominate it based on how other people have compared the 2.

This question has been asked by many including myself. The answer is: the CALs aren't even close.

After 2days listening to HD25-1 ii, what i can summarize HD25-1 ii is combination of M80 and S500.
S500 is all forward. M80 is polite. HD25-1 ii is in between those.

now thinking which one to keep. :)

If i can keep only one, i will keep HD25-1 ii. it just likes M80 with more bass quantity.
But since S500 is very cheap for its quality, i will keep it too :)
Then i will miss M80's built quality.

Having both VModa M80 and JVC HA-S500.
What i can say M80 is considered neutral headset. imho, it is what song/music should be played.
S500 is forward and loud. It is what people want to hear from the song/music :)

I'll give impression on HD25-1 ii later. it is still on the way.

Interested in that comparison! Thanks.

What r u waiting for? If you've been reading this thread then how else can it be said? How's about These HPs are like Picards Enterprise vs insert "Kirks Enterprise" here. haha jk. But seriously I really don't think you'll find anything close that's as portable, easily driven, light, foldable, reversible for dj'ng, clean styled, and just so musically revealing. These really are just so technologically advanced its so apparent in how they sound. These will shine even more with better recordings and mastering. You can probably still enjoy the Cals but why waste time and money? Just my take. My 500s made me forget about the Tiesto's that'r comin out.

How would these compare to the Sony MDR-V55s?

I find these S500s hard to be called DJ headphones since the cable is 2 sided.

However, I get the feeling that these JVCs would be great with EDM music genres. :D

Just received my s500's and after a quick listen they sound significantly better than the m50's. The bass has more authority and vocals are much more loud and clear. The m50 was to mid-recessed for my taste.
Super excited about these headphones. The best thing is they are very loud. Like I only have my volume at 80 percent on my iphone 5. Where any other headphones had to be maxed out volume.
