The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread

Tyvm for tbe Impressions! There is one for a solid discount in the US right now and I've been kinda eyeing it tbh, but wasn't sure if it was a good move or not given I need to plug my amp (aic-10, so I don't think full class A but not positive) into it as well. Guess I'll do some more research. Any chance you've compared against something like a niagara 7000 or P20?
I tried a couple of things...liked the shunyata venom distributor and the trafomatic classic 1000 the best. But the Stromtank is a level above them. The Riviera is pure class A and I doubt that it draws more current than the Genus...

If anyone is interested in a Minty 1266TC I’m thinking about unloading mine for about 3500 for a quick sale. It’s one of my favorite headphones of all times. I just need some money right now and hopefully when I’m in a better situation I can buy it again. I’m also thinking about selling my first watt J2 which is an awesome pairing with it for about 2K. If anyone’s interested here hit me up hopefully I can sell some other stuff and be able to keep both but I need to come up with about 7-8k in the next couple weeks.

Tyvm once again for the input. Sounds like I'll need to heavily consider it

So I recently got a 1266 phi and the old pads are horrible. While I'm 3D printing some adapter for ZMF and Audeze pads, I had a bright idea I'm surprised noone ever posted yet. The 1266 with dekoni diana pads.
It's insanly comfortable, I even added a stepper to raise the pads a bit from the driver and create a bass port :

The ear pads are not the right size. This may not have the best effect on the sound. But if you like it so much, why not.
P.s.
The headband suspenders are amazing. Now these headphones are definitely not afraid of being hit by an SUV.

This headphone is great with classical and acoustic music. But it is unbelievable with electronic music. It actually makes me
listen to electronic music more than I would otherwise. I’d love it to be as good with acoustic music, though. Dilemma.
Sounding great:

Reminds me of this one reviewer (consumer grade headphone reviewer, however) "Every headphone can do mids and highs. It's not hard to do. But what separates a good headphone from the rest is how it does the BASS"

I feel like even in the high end that quote is still somewhat true.

I feel like it's more of a "pick two" situation than a "mids and highs only" thing tbh. Seriously, if 1266 was just a bit smoother through the mids (recessed is fine, just want it a little more even), I think it would be the only can I ever picked up

Yeah unfortunately you can hear the mids dip if you just run through a tone generator. Maybe next driver iteration.

A version of the TC with actually prominent mids would probably be arguably the greatest headphones ever. A bit more comfort would be the icing on the cake but could do without it in that case. I do in fact hope it happens one day.

Honestly, I don't find it particularly uncomfortable even. It's wierd and I do wish it looked more normal, but at least it's not sr1a where I can't even look down without them shifting

See I'm the opposite. I don't care what it looks like. It's only me in here lol. But for me, it's too "present" and not comfortable like other headphones. Again though, if the next iteration of it has more lush and forward mids, with keeping the rest the same, I won't give a damn and I'll give them my money immediately lol

That's fair. My chain is at work so looks do play some role. I just don't want comments 😅

I think it looks pretty cool and badass while on the stand. On the head yes, it looks a bit weird. The comfort for me is great, my ears stays cool and I can wear it no problem for 3-4 hours straight.

As for the mids I feel like the Lyngdorf amp I am using does a great job of smoothing them out and makes them silky smooth. I`m not that fan of the Lyngdorf on speakers but for the 1266 it is a great match.
