How about dynamic drivers?

Do all these come from a limited set of companies?

Quite a few of them are made by Foster.  You've likely never heard of Foster, but you've probably listened to quite a few of their transducers.

Some are still made in-house, but you'd be surprised at how many are not.

JHAudio has their drivers manufactured by Knowles based on designs provided by Jerry Harvey.  Jerry told me that to my face at RMAF last year.  As far as I know he's never lied to anyone about it.  Do you have some direct quote from him stating otherwise?

Jerry Harvey does design his own BA drivers and has leading manufacturer building them in small series to his exact specifications under an exclusive contract.  Doing the research and the design itself including the Bill of Materials and the Manufacturing Specifications is expensive and time consuming enough but JHA is nowhere near big enough to finance their own manufacturing facility.

Outsourcing the manufacturing of different parts and components such as PCB boards, extrusions, and casings that require special manufacturing facilities and processes is common practice.  The SSD in my Apple MacBook Pro is actually manufactured by Samsung, yet it is still an Apple product because of the combination of its unique design, features and capabilities not found elsewhere.

I would question the OP's ability to read based on the exhibited ability to write.

Perfect answer.

Cool! Thanks, Uncle Erik, you're so much better than my real uncle!

No, I hadn't heard of Foster. Can you give examples of companies who use Foster-made drivers?
Does Monster? Or Sony? Or Sennheiser? I'll bet Klipsch does for the S4.

How about the companies who make them in-house? I bet JVC japan did with their FX700.

Do you know if Future Sonics does with their dynamic customs?

At one point back in the 80's~90's, you can find Foster's parts in 80% of all the consumer electronic in the market. Nowadays Foster doesn't have that large a share in the market anymore, but it is still one of the largest around. Sony, Panasonic, JVC, AT, Denon, Sennheiser, Apple, Creative are just some of their clients.

Ah, cool, thanks.

I don't know why they do so little marketing. They had a 25% off sale on their customs, if they had let anyone know, there would be at least a few people who would have gone for it, then reviewed the customs and who knows? We could have seen some interest rather than one review from 2006 or whatever...

I guess they focus on keeping their professional clientele happy and don't try to bite off more than they can chew? JH seems to be having some quality control and customer service issues, so maybe FS has the right of it.

OP, if you didn't know, Knowles is the source for drivers for many manufactures. Actually, i don't think that any company actually makes the drivers in house. they don't do this as this would be very expensive and why do it  when external sources are very good. knowles makes the drivers for both UE and for JH. I believe that JH has some custom ones made just for JH though. custom as in they aren't normally sold by knowles. the company specially makes them just for JH.
