for the longest time i've had an artist show up with a semicolon in my list and I can't figure out what text in the tag causes this, for example an artist called John with an album called Alpha and Bravo, I will see the following:

John;John : Alpha;Alpha (something wrong here)

and

John : Bravo (correct, nothing wrong)

I've searched the tags and labels in the album and can't find anything out of the ordinary, anyone have any idea?

My opinion - SU 1.3.3 @ FLAC/ iir off/ cpu default. But ofc, this is with upgraded hardware. With stock hardware I found SUEX sound "best" but it is little buggy and NDFFF and SU 1.3.3 sounded also very good.

I use v1.9.3

Not that I've played with many others recently. My Tralucent Ref.1 sounds quite good on that firmware.

No need to fix what isn't broken.

The best firmware I have found is DX50_TRUE_SOUND_V2_BY_DOC2008, I am running my DX50 via coax out to to iBasso D14 and have Beyerdynamic DT 1350 cc.

Music tastes vary from Symphonic Rock Epica/ Within Temptation, Killers, Koshheen, Nick Cave, and David Bowie. Plus lots of other stuff too many to list.

ok, so i know DX50 is not really a basshead DAP, but is there a best firmware for a basshead?

is the RockBox EQ better than the stock one?

Don't know about the basshead, but RockBox rocks. Not only is the EQ better, almost everything else is better too.

Please note: RockBox does not support HiRes files at all.

If you want to give it a shot, head over here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/709855/rockbox-for-ibasso-dx50-dual-boot-with-stock-firmware

Mango and RB side by side - cannot get any better than that.

Cheers.

I use Rockbox, but the DX50's weakest quality is its bass. The best firmware for bass and sound IMO is Sound Unlocked experimental. Personally, I wouldn't use it because it is buggy. The 2nd best option is doc2008's firmware.

For overall use and sound I would use Rockbox.

ah cool. where would SU 1.3.3/1.5.1 sit within that ranking for bass and general sound/usability?

For me 1.3.3 SU and DOCs newest firmware are VERY close. It comes down to preference. Those are both in 2nd in my opinion. The usability is same as stock firmware, I love replaygain in Rockbox too much or I would be using one of those. I also find the shuffle algorithm to not work very well in Mango. Maybe it's just me as I haven't seen anyone else comment on it. DOCs firmware has more lows and highs. 1.3.3 SU is closer to neutral.
