Yup, The Pioneer is a legit streaming portable comp with out the uber screen on R3. Sound and build were great. Sound was my EX1000. The comparing of DAPs like drivers with bass/med/treble desciptions is outta hand, that's your monitors doing that stuff. clarity and resolution.....that is a good way to check quality. I stick my ex in my ear and use mini xlr terms to switch from device to device using identical tracks and get OCD on certain notes. Could not do that with the items you asked about but the sonics were too similar anyway. I love ONKYO as I have several home system items from them but that is an odd baby screen device. Design is weird. I would pick the Pioneer of those 2 but the R3 over both

@Hawaiibadboy I know you don't like long comments so thank you >< Yes sometimes DAP comparisons get overboard. So you would say the sound of R3 is comparable to the Onkyo/Pioneer?

I have the DPS1 now, but if the R3 sound isn't far off, it sounds like an upgrade for usability!

Cheers :)

Are there any pics of the Grey version?

The Headfonics review is for the Gray version: https://headfonics.com/2018/03/hiby-music-r3-review/

I too would prefer stainless for a contrast, but the Grey looks pretty alright too :D

I just found the following adapter that might work with the new usb-c to 3.5mm coax cable that Hiby released for their final stretch goal. (I doubt we will reach that goal) If we were to combine this adapter plug with their new cable do you think it would work? This adapter is super cheap so I am thinking of giving it a try. Here is the link:

Definitely worth a try for that price

Sound is nearly indistinguishable so yes...R3 is uber convenient and beautiful

Armband
soft silicon cover
LDAC+ Spotify

If that ever happens i might use this only.

Hi!

Already pledged, but I'm thinking of adding the leather case as an add-on. I haven't been able to spot, neither in the campaign nor in this thread, any actual high quality image of the leather case, just the low quality image here, which even might look like a mockup or something:

Has any real image of the leather case been featured? Sorry if I skipped any page of the thread!
I haven’t seen it, but have the leather for the R6 and it is a thing of beauty. I would expect this to be the same

Hard hitting question here:

If Hiby pulled that off, which headphone/iem would you use today with that hypothetical R3?

My current DAP is a Fiio X5 2nd gen. My son has expressed interest in the X5 II and I've been reading about the HiBy R3 for a a few months now with great interest. I've decided to let my son use my Fiio for a little while to see if it fits well for his daily use and so I've backed this Kickstarter for a HiBy R3 with a leather case. I don't do any music streaming, I use a DAP for my own music library, so the current limited support for streaming services is not a show stopper. I'll be using this to power my LZ-A4's (I've enjoyed these IEM's with every source I've used them with to date and I expect the R3 to be no exception).

Looking very much forward to receiving the R3!

The campfire Audio Cascade for $200 with a bt cable that could do LDAC....and I would be thrillled!
The Comet? I've seen them hugging the R3 in many photos you've posted between here and the Atlas/Comet thread. You've got a talent for photography, sir! Now you've gone and made me want to trade my NIB Sony XBA-N3BP for the Comets.

Anyone know of any LDAC Bluetooth cables? Preferably with MMCX? Beuller?

Yeah. Damn. Sony makes some awesome stuff. Expensive, but awesome stuff. That LDAC codec is one that I would love to see on more devices, such as the R3. Might have to play the waiting game on the R3 to see if there's ever any interest to implement that. While I use AptX on my Q5, there's a limitation on what it can do. I never feel like I'm getting all of the layers of a song, so I hope there's a plan for the future on the R3.

@Joe Bloggs is the output impedance for unbalanced and balanced out the same? How much is it?

6906334.html

Also, the JD.com Chinese listing states the 3.5mm output as 114mW instead of 57mW. Which is correct?

Thanks :)

Both are under 1 ohm.

114mW looks suspiciously like the result of putting 57+57 into a cell which auto-calculates...

In any case, it is 57mW per channel into 32 ohms.

That's how we want the case to be (accommodating the touchscreen with room to spare) but the first test run of cases came out with a thicker bezel that only just exposes the screen. We are having the factory redo the cases. So no, there are no proper images of this yet

Joe is in Japan and so are some other review folks who like free stuff so I expect more opinions for ya'll. For $200 it is a thing I would buy for exercising which is why this thing needs that arm band in the original promo vid. Shoulda been the first stretch goal IMO

Long time not talk bud. Sorry for being under a rock in the last few days :cold_sweat: I'm not in Japan yet but have been preparing for it.

The arm band scenario can be created by something like this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...Gymnasium-Activities/2972036_32835536147.html

Which is why we are giving away at least two hard cases for the R3, because that quick release plate can be mounted on one case for use with such a device while the other case can be left plain for when that QR plate would get in the way and you still want to protect the device. Unfortunately we haven't yet found an armband combo that we can afford to give away, stretch or no stretch, while it seems disingenious to have a stretch goal that only opens up an item for *purchase*...

Best regards,
Joe
