The Headphone Driver Pics Thread

Just tested that every part between them is interchangeable. I can even use the earpads from DT 700 Pro X with my Anniversary model as the plastic ring (keeping things together) in front of the baffle is exactly the same.

I will take some measurements to see how the pads and the thicker foam from DT 700 Pro X change the sound with DT 770 Pro X.

You're saying the new velour style pads on 700 Pro fit the 770 PRO X LE?

This is new to me.

Any pics? :p

Yes they fit perfectly, as the LE model shares parts with DT 700 Pro X.

This is the FR (purple line = Harman Target 2018) with the DT 700 Pro X pads. If you also use the thick foam from DT 700 Pro X, you get 3-6 dB less treble, after which it matches Harman target quite closely. Still, you will be missing most of the upper mids and ear gain region with these pads, so I have to listen them first to see, if I can recommend them or not. Now I only had time to measure them.

You can also put the mounting ring from the T1/T5 Gen 3, DT 1990/1770, and Amiron Home on the DT 700/900 Pro X and use regular Beyer pads. Picture of DT 900 Pro X with T1.3 pad. Sadly can’t use the Pro X mounting ring on the T1.3 and use the DT 900 Pro X pads. That’s due to the angled driver getting in the way. But other non-angled Teslas such as the DT 1990, Amiron, etc. and old school DT Beyers such as the DT 880/990 this will work on.

I need to get new T1.3 pads sometime, getting worn and like 4 years old now.

The only beyer for beyer pad roll I did was the 1770 coolmax pads on t5p.II.

It's always nice to see all the possibilities though, even though I'm sure some of them won't work out.

Even with the older velours i think they varied slightly .... e.g T1/t5 pads, t90, 1770 , 1990 standard/analytical etc. they make so many pads!

All these swappable parts and pads and with newer Beyers swappable drivers makes me to want to make a custom FrankenBeyer that is a mix-mash of parts sometime and maybe some custom damping I’ll add as well. Beyer is like the Lego of headphones now especially with those new easily swappable Stellar.45 drivers (two variants of the driver so far, looking forward to more variants in the future).

Good luck in your quest :) . Regarding the 770 PRO X LE, it is a FrankenBeyer in a sense, and your appreciation of the 480 which is a FrankenBeyer at heart once you add a 150 cable/pads or 100 pads etc.

I recall there was on reddit a 770 w/ Tesla drivers. Though, IIRC, it was t1 600ohm drivers as opposed to t5 drivers. Not sure how similar/ different they would be since you said the Pro 700/900X has same drivers in open and closed setup.

... and there was the old 770 600 ohm from the past as well. I wish they would keep the 600ohm 880/770 in circulation, but oh well

It's nice to have the excitement in the Beyer world again, especially with this 100th Anniversary, that has to be respected.

With the steel ring removed

The steel ring itself is printed
20240505_205255.jpg

The rear of the front part. The front and back of the headphones are joined together with screws and seperate into two units

20240505_205255.jpg

Very generous amount of mineral wool dampener but the steel mesh cage for it is certainly unique, keeps all the wool in place
20240505_205319.jpg

With the wool removed. You can see that the driver is held in place by steel clamps that are screwed on.
20240505_205440.jpg

The driver removed from the front plate.

Its a cone type but Im not exactly sure what the material is, its textures like textile and very light and thin.

Held against the light
20240505_205457.jpg

The front plate on its own. What feels like polyester mesh goes against the dust cover, and then a steel mesh on it and finally the driver itself

Very interesting build, far better built than the CTX-3 though a bit fiddly if Im honest. I still wonder what the diagphragme material is

Im still dissapointed this was what beyerdynamic made for 100 years,

Just a DT770 with DT700 pro x parts

I expected a rerelease of the DT48, or even an electrostat!

Amazing!!

I think CTX-1 is a flagship for Napolex.. They did more dampings and interesting structures for their cans.

But CTX-3 was not, they just put drivers in their cans. Very interesting driver materials.

Thanks for your wonderful job :)

Oh heck how did I miss those! I pretty much have a collection of DT-48s including a prototype!

Yeap! I got a CTX-3 and opened that up, far more simpler construction with just a foam ring.

They put a lot of actual effort into the CTX-1 mk II.
Shame it doesnt sound that good

Now another Napolex! More common than the CTX but far less information

Napolex SV-2

Pads are glued on
20240505_213220.jpg

20240505_213346.jpg

Inside is a ring of wool, but not the mineral wool I usually see, its more like polyester
20240505_213348.jpg

Rear of the driver
20240505_213408.jpg

Behind the driver is a layer of folder cloth, and then a very, very thin layer of felt which is not removable

20240505_213432.jpg

Unlike other Napolexes, this one is an actual mylar dome
20240505_213440.jpg

Its a bit sobering to think that this was the last headphone designed by Napolex and their only second mylar dome, the X-23 was the first (which I still need to get). Released in 1978 until 1980 when the company closed down
