These have Same mediocre drivers as dt100.

I take my words back on dt100, you are right about the driver being mediocre. :D

sorry for bad pics; laptop cam. Phone camera cracked.

Its some cheap plastic/mylar i don't know. They don't have the bubbly sticky drivers I was hoping for. I pressed on it, and its not the worst i've seen, but its pretty shiiieeetey enough to explain its poor low end response. You can see the driver start deforming after 1mm of movement. Not that stiff like some of the old AKG 240. Had to disassemble the 100s to use headband on 480 which i broke trying to create more clamp pressure. So warning to those trying to get more clamp pressure on 100/150/480, DO NOT OVERBEND :p

@vampula , for praising the 100s. This is a 16ohm

Its ok. I just wanted to prevent anyone from buying dt100ish headphones(not dt150 these are really nice). I spent 5$ or so on pare of these, you, i suppose, spent much more:)

That is quite the steal at 5 bones. I got em used for like 40 and got new pads so 60 give or take. I got them mostly to see if i would like the rectangular pads of Beyer before questing for 150/480 so it worked out.

As crappy as their low end is, i do love their midrange for vocal clarity when listening and studying vocals. Will defo grab another down the road.

I think they look cool too in the creme color :D

Something very different today :)

Sony VIP-1000
53mm shell-diameter (black plastic)
(roughly) 43mm active driver area (including 'surround')

cool stuff. Never knew such thing existed. Now I want one:persevere:

Something morr recent by sony. mdr-100aap.
40mm titanium coated drivers with bat repelling 60khz top frequency.

Nothing extraordinary but I like how cups are designed. Even If there is no dampening material maybe that shape works against standing waves or adds rigidity. What ever the case +1 for effort :)

It also makes me a little more curious about the Sony PFR-V1, which uses similar drivers, but I only remember seeing lots of negative impressions about it.

Ollo audio hps-s4

Speaker size: 50mm open back design
Frequency range: 20-22kHz flat response design
SPL: 114dB hearing threshold
Impedance: 32ohm

Something very similar we've seen before on page 40. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-headphone-driver-pics-thread.202122/page-40

Specs don't match to anything I've seen with that driver design. I asked ollo about the drivers and they said those are of the shelf drivers but they chose the membrane. So it is not build completely to their specs but it is also different from other drivers that look alike.

Very interesting and good sounding headphones. My review on these should be ready next weekend.

This kind of 'random' pattern should help do a number of things.
Any kind of pattern on the diaphragm should increase the rigidity which will help lower distortion.
Irregular pattern should theoretically decrease diaphragm resonant frequencies, or dissipate them better, as the resonant vibrations will spread out in a non uniform manner.
But that's just basic theory, I'm not so sure on the finer details.

I think one disadvantage is that unlike a driver with uniform spiral ridges, the "water-like" diaphragm doesn't function with as accurate mechanical uniformity.
That might explain why is has a gigantic magnet for better pistonic motor control.

JVC HA-D990

- 40mm
- 65 ohm
- 106 db/mW

5 - 3Nnsvsw.jpg 6 - e7GlQTz.jpg 8 - 1ZqKmYi.jpg

Interesting how the driver surround protrudes on the front baffle . I don't think I came across a driver like this actually - it would usually touch the ears, I would imagine most manufacturers would have it sit flush on the baffle to avoid touching the ears.

Foam disintegrated. Cleaned some parts off while keeping just a bit as seen in the first picture.
