Anyone know about these drivers? I just found about this now :O I thought there was only the trio of dt480/100/150.

Let's get this thread back on track...

Technics RP-F3 (driver, and implementation)

_DSC0084.jpg

As far as I can see, this is a very much refined version of the F5. Looks like the same driver, but 3 different aspects of tuning.
Left: baffle vents are closed. (Unlike F5 where these have the 'normal' white paper venting material.)
Right: White closed-cell polystyrene? (F5 is empty) Looks like packaging material. And the 'Reference' / 'X.B.S.' vent system. (F5 is always in a simplified 'X.B.S.' mode)

Left: Vent in 'Reference' position (hole is closed)
Right: Vent in 'X.B.S.' position (hole is open)

They remind me a bit of chicken wings.

Unipolar 2002.

She was sitting in my collection for many years in not the "best" condition, finally decided to do a STAX conversion and a full time-correct restoration, she's apart and the Driver is perfect. Now, hopefully I finish this restoration and it doesn't end up in the never-ending list of pending projects.

Not so common, headphone with 45mm drivers. No frontal picture sorry, I'm not sure If I want to sell or mod these.
Open Back mod seems tepmting since these allready have a decorative grille.

Anyway... Master & dynamic mh40

Ah, shame those drivers are glued down.
Not the kind of thing you expect when spending that sort of money.

Interesting spring-system... that's on the headband joint?

I think the spings are there to make cup swivell smoother. I think those work kind of like shock asborbers in a car.

MH40's weight alot and all the weight is on the cups. If one was to shake the headphones it could damage them. Unless you have in built shock asborbers of course :)

It's a shame these are mediocre sounding headphones. The build quality is astonishing. It is so good that it makes me wonder If I should have the driver replaced. Using a $499 headphone as a Shell donor. :D

It's just that no other headphone I've ever seen has such detail on build. Heck, The adjusters Look like some measurement tools!IMG_20180309_221920.jpg

Yes indeed. Only fools would use such inferior headphones. They should burn all those pesky Dt-100s!!!

Exactly. These headphones can only give you some emount of mids, they are just for one ear use, for live musicians, not for end user's listening sessions. Dt150 will give you full response tho.

I was just trying to defend the honor of the "studio legend standard" lol. Honestly, I got vintage cans to "learn" how to analyze music, and "train" my ears to what "neutral/flat" is. So I do "enjoy" the vintage Beyers/ AKGs for example, but deeep inside I prefer bass heavy cans. I guess by having more vintage, we seem less of a noob on here.

I think most humans trying to listen to music on a dt100 would throw up a little in their mouth. :D

I had dt100, and examined their drivers(now i have just dead one from em). They are small, membrane is really thick, and magnet system is very weak. Nothig good if you compare them with dt250/150 ones. Also just look at frequency response graphs, and you will understand what im talking about. They ARE garbage.

I'm a bit of a closet bass-head at times myself. Had to mod my DT 480 to bring out reasonable amounts of bass, it's enough for EDM and bass-heavy music for me which I listen to a lot of. It's solidity in the bass helps make up for some of it's lack of presence.

Is the DT 100 that poor sounding? I haven't heard one yet. I owned a DT 150 which is a good headphone. I have a DT 480 which shares the same body but uses the even older DT 48 driver and sounds really good with some modding to help flatten it's FR response and control some of it's resonances.
