The Fiio X3 Thread.

  Hi, sotv

The X3 1st gen can support the formats below:

Lossless:
APE  (Fast):192K/24B (Max);   APE (Normal):96K/24B(Max);   APE (High):96K/24B(Max);
FLAC:192K/24B(Max);
WAV:192K/24B(Max);
WMA 9.1 LOSSLESS:96K/24B(Max);
Apple Lossless:192K/24B(Max);
DSD:2.8M/1bit(.dff/.dsf)

Lossy compression:
MP3、AAC、WMA、OGG...

If the formats of the music files which you downloaded from audible.com are included in those, the X3 1st gen can playback them.

I don't think it will then, their wiki page says "Aubile Audiobooks are distributed by Audible with the file extensions .aa and .aax. They contain data encoded with either the MP3 or ACELP codecs"

Audibles own webpage http://audible.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5128/~/what-is-an-audible-format,-and-how-do-i-choose-the-one-that-best-suits-me%3F seems to indicate format 4 should play in selective MP3 players but if the file extension isn't recognised it is a non starter I would imagine?. As it is a paid for service reluctant to set it up and pay, to find it doesn't work on my Fiio.

Hi, sotv
Yes, the X3 doesn't support  .aa and .aax. But maybe you can find a software to transfer the music files to the formats the X3 supports.

I recently did a clean OS install on my new laptop (Win 10, post anniversary update). For some reason, I still had to disable driver signing to get the Fiio drivers to install properly. Win 10 did show that the drivers are signed and all, but apparently that wasn't good enough.
Anybody else having issues with new Win 10 installs?

Even more f------- annoying, if I don't boot the damn computer every time with signing disabled then the X3 won't work

I have had no problem with Windows 10 with or without the update. I don't know how you installed your drivers but this is the way I did mine.

Open a Command Prompt with admin privileges. In Windows 10 or 8, just press the Windows key + X and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)”.
    Type in the following command and press Enter.
    bcdedit /set testsigning on
    You should receive “The operation completed successfully” message.
    Close the Command Prompt and restart your computer. From now on, you will be able to install or run any unsigned driver without problems.
    If you need to enable the Driver Signature Enforcement again, run this command instead:
    bcdedit /set testsigning off

Hope this Helps.

Hi guys,

which is the right fit software to manage playlist and library on my fiio X3 first generation?

There's a way to create the playlist on a MP3 software and then syncronize on X3?

Medi player is good but playlist are in a different format.

Thanks.

I had been trying to find this review for ages:

http://www.hifichoice.co.uk/news/article/fiio-x3--pound;159/20374

Just after I bought my X3 when it hadn't been out that long, Hi Fi Choice did a decent review on it. From what I remember when I had the magazine with this review in it, they rated it at 4.5 starts. I don't know why I got rid of it. This was obviously when FiiO didn't have any of their other players. They actually reviewed it when it cost £159 and they actually directed you to the same store I got it from too. AdvancedMp3Players.co.uk.

If they thought it was decent then, then with all of the firmwares since then, it has only got much better. However, you can now get the X3II for the same price which I think will be better from what I have heard.

I received new X3 two days ago and I have been listening to it as a DAC on Mac with Spotify and some FLAC files, I use the premium Spotify streaming option. The quality of sound is simply amazing. Also using the VE Monks. The volum is around 80. I would definitely recommend it this to anyone who wants to enjoy quality audio.

This thread is for the original X3 which is no no longer made. Neither is the original X1 and X5 either from what I am aware.

But the X1II, X3II and X5II are now the current models of the ones you have listed. It really depends what you want. You could buy one of the older models and 2nd hand and get them cheaper or you could buy the X1II new which which is the cheapest of the ones you have listed. Or if you are willing to spend more, you could get the X5II which will be the best. The one thing I have heard many say about the X5 and the X5II is that is is HUGE. I don't quite understand why it needs to be as large as it is but if you are after the best player out of the 3, then that will be the best. The X3II is in the middle of the 2. I can't actually say what any of these will be like as I only own the very first music player that FiiO made so other people will know better than me.

One important thing to note is that most FiiO players either have very little or no built in storage at all. However, they are expandable with a micro SD card. And you can expand it by a huge amount, but just not cheaply as 200gb and 256gb card are really expensive. 64gb card are now much cheaper than they were though. The new players will probably keep getting firmware updates so that they will eventually support the highest capacity card. At the moment, I think the max the original X3 can take is 200gb.

Dear colt1664
We're so sorry to inform you that currently all the Dropbox download links on our website are temporarily dead. Due to the sharp rise in download traffic recently, our Dropbox account has now exceeded the Dropbox traffic limit.
We can provide a backup download link to you. It seems the link you need is the FW2.0 for X3II: https://www.dropbox.com/s/r8cbqlpqxpl44sx/X3II-FW2.0.zip?dl=0
Or you could check this post of backup links to find the file you need:http://fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=41808.
Sorry for bringing inconvenience to you.
Best regards
