*crosses fingers*

Hope that Media Scanning is made completely optional.

MSC - File/Folder users have little need for it.

Hi, the X3 sounds to be a nice product. Does someone know if it will have an upgradable firmware?

I believe it has.

so it has a 3.5mm line out port as well?

3.5mm headphone-out, 3.5mm coax-out, 3.5mm line-out (at the bottom) as well as a line-out in the FiiO-dock connection.

I keep comming back here with hopes to see if James put up some photos but its just false alarms :p

ClieOS, sorry if its redundant, but this thread grew so long already ... its hard to find stuff.

would a LOD (from the dock connector and ending in 3.5 mm stereo) be necessary here if there is already a 3.5mm stereo out?

thnaks!

If I may, no.  3.5-->3.5 done.

LOD won't be necessary for X3. I am building a special 75ohm interconnect for the coax-out though, just for the fun of DIYing and see if it makes any difference compared to regular interconnect.

nice. thank you both.
so the coax out is there because .... ? to have more options I assume. would it be able to take TOSLINK?

The mini LO is analog.  The Coax is digital.  Toslink is digital optical.

X3 will be about the same size as E7. E11 should be slightly smaller, but not by much.

If the batter lasts less than 20 hours, it would be awesome if it were removable. Then we could cary a spare.

Why not just carry a spare USB battery for all your USB devices including your phone.

True, a spare battery somewhere in your bag with the contacts exposed (even inside its own pouch) doesn't seem lik a good idea. Replaceable batteries are more for replacing them when they can't hold charge anymore. There are a lot of celphone techs in my area who can open up iPods and replace batts, repair wiring to the HP out, etc; but imagine a niche, non-mass market product like the X3. It's hard enough to find a batt for a Fuze or S9 where I am. We have a local Fiio dealer but even if we can send it through them to replace the battery, but just taking it our yourself is still more convenient.

Although a fixed battery saves the unit from getting bulky; remember that the E11 board is far simpler than the X3, and it doesn't have a screen and buttons on one side. Plus if it's under $150 there's enough money to have a Cowon or Teclast, if you don't have one yet, or you won't need to sell it if you do; as opposed to blowing all $400 on a single, less compromise player that is either iTunes dependent or runs out of juice before you hit 10hours.

---

And in light of a few parts of this thread - remember, the key here is value for money. Fiio is already giving us, for less than $200, a pure audio player with all the Hi-Fi necessities without the bulk and, hopefully, decent battery life, too. And by 'decent,' I mean as long as it goes over 8hours; instead of pitting it against a Cowon because it doesn't have an AMOLED touchscreen and (limited) apps, why not just have both?
