Sell the hardware without software. There are skillful people who could port Rockbox to it. All you have to do is to provide them one or two X3 for development.

It is a real shame as so many of us were looking forward to the X3, however it's isn't the end of the world.

I hope we will see the project continue sometime in the near future, given that all the resource that has been spent to complete the hardware and people who were really looking forward to it.

ClieOS could you tell us the secret sauce the X3 has since the production is on hold? Or is it still "for your eyes only"?

I guess at this point we will never know if X3 is going to have it or not, but the extra feature that I was referring to is a build in resampler, a little bit like the one found on ColorFly C4.

I would like to express condolences.  It is a travesty when forces outside your control are stopping you from meeting your objective.  It seems much like the weather, where you just have to bunker down and bare it.  I hope you can find a reliable resource to allow you to continue your project for the future.

To bad to here this. I had an aching suspicion this was gonna happen when I kept hearing the firmware makers is holding up the project. That seems to be the weakest link in the Chinese DAP market in all. Crumby firmware leads to a less than desirable DAP although they have much more potential if they truly focus on this area. Also hiring people who are qualified and skilled to do the job correctly. Glad I didn't wait and am quite happy with my new Hifiman 601 ;)

i would personally be very happy with a rockbox OS on this thing.. maybe fiio really can look into that as an option??

+1 on that if it's a possibility.  Either way, I will patiently wait for the X3.  Please don't abandon it.
