The Entry Level Stax Thread

Forgive me for asking something that I am quite sure has been covered already (there are 205 pages of posts!), but what is Stax support in the US like? Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply--I appreciate it..

Here is my experience from 2017. The headband on my 407 broke. I tried the Stax U.S. website for parts and it didn't work. I called Elusive Disc, from whom I bought the 407s a couple years earlier, and they didn't have the headbands; they also had no idea (nor interest in) where I might purchase one.
I could not find any U.S. source. In short, this is the worst (alleged) customer service I have ever received in this hi-fi hobby in 40ish years.

I ended up buying a headband (and backup band and yokes for my 404LE from ElectroMod in UK). Took a couple weeks but I got everything i needed.

Wow! This is not very encouraging as someone thinking about taking the plunge...:frowning2:

If you will read through the thread you will find that Stax was in the process of changing its distribution in the US in the past couple of years, which likely had something to do with the poor service @gefski received. I don't know the current status of Stax distribution other than what is on the Stax International website, which states that the distributor is RPD in Fort Worth, TX.

I needed service for a pair of SR-307s in mid-2018. I contacted Edifier and was eventually given a yahoo.ca email address to contact. After a few back-and-forth exchanges I was told that I should send my headphones to Japan, along with $50 to cover return shipping. I thought that was a bit steep but I was OK with it until they said the estimated cost for the repair was $310, which is about 3/4 what I paid for the headphones originally. I ended up buying a new pair of L300 Limiteds from Woo Audio.

Can anyone help me source a replacement for this part. I'm not even sure what it's called but it is for a set of Lambda Pros. The screw that holds this (hanger?) to the arc has sheered off.

Unfortunately the peg holes are smaller on this than on my 202s.

For me, modding a Lambda would be a pretty risky deal. New pads maybe.

Here's a Stax guru. He builds and mods amps, but I think even he doesn't mod the cans to any extent.

are the pads glued on in the 307 headphones, is the 307 so unpopular that barely there is any mention of it

Technically, I suppose this isn't a mod of the earspeaker itself, but you might consider removing the existing pads and substituting 507 real leather pads. The size is exactly the same, but the material and the shape and density of the padding is different. I found the 507 pads both more comfortable (esp. in summer) and to have a subtle improvement in bass response.

so the pads on 307 are not glued on and can be removed like 207 stax

All the older Lambda headphones have the adhesive earpad system. Only the L3/5/700 have the pegged attachment system.

I demonstrate kind of how to remove the adhesive earpads here:

I like the EP-507 earpads a lot more than the stock synthetic leather ones. However, if you live in a hot area like SoCal, the earpads' double-sided tape melts and might need to be replaced a year or so later.

Hello,
You can measure its dimensions with precision and design it with a 3d program and print it. It is possible to exist in web as a ready 3d design.
