The HE-5 sold for $600, so good discount...but, that was in 2009. The HE-5 has not been available for so long I do not see any listings, even completed ones, on eBay. The single HE-5LE that sold on eBay went for $390 used.

So, who knows this HE-5 could be a limited release made up of old parts and be worth thousands to collectors going forward. Or not. The photos do not look like the old HE-5, which were real wood showing the grain, not black. Innerfidelity did a review comparing the HE-5 and LE versions and like most reviews preferred the LE. If anyone has updated information on exactly what will be shipping it would be interesting. I would be surprised if the HE-5 release was anything more than a limited 1 time thing.

Many folks take the HE-5 and have it converted into a Code-X by Enigma Audio. there is no web page not he Code-X anymore, since the source headphone was discontinued by HiFiMan. I think the conversion is like $800. Many say the Code-X is one of the best headphones there is.

I received mine yesterday. And it looks brand new, not returned or displayed. I already ordered the second pair. One thing missing might be the American warranty card, I only found the Japanese warranty card.
