Phasing them out to make way for the 1770/1880/1990 perhaps? Though, at these prices, I'm not sure the updates are worth the premium.

Yeah...good point.

One more...DT880 Premium Special Edition for $139 (ugh...ordered!) http://www.ebay.com/itm/311742462942

Guess I picked a bad day to give up Headphones!

Completes the DT set though

Well... technically, you would have to buy all the different impedance options too...

Hmmm....at these prices not out of the realm of possibility.

Seriously though, I can't believe the price/performance ratio for this series right now.

$109 for a set of DT770s that will work out of a phone -- astonishing!

The Denon DP-300F Fully Automatic Turntable from Amazon Prime for $200:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FMNBXG

That's a very touchy turntable, often they're impossible to get dialed in at the correct speed, due to lack of fine tuning capability (the drive potentiometer's stepping isn't granular enough). IMO, it's worth about $200, so may not be the best deal out there.

Do you know a better fully automatic turntable system for under $300?

Hello Head-fiers!

I owe a lot to this thread, I have come across some killer deals!

I wanted to share with everyone a thread I started that is dedicated to the best gear acquired for under $500 (I thought you guys would like this).

I am curious to know what kind of gear you've acquired in this price range and what systems you've built, ect..

Here is the link:

P.S.

I had the opportunity to purchase the idsd bl for $400 and am extremely satisfied. I don't think anything can compare for the price, granted it was a sale price. Nevertheless, it was still acquired for under $500.

You guys are AWESOME...thank you!

So if I am buying one for my son that I'm fairly confident is inclined towards a V shape sound sig with the the bass boom of a closed back phone (hip hop type music), is the DT-770 the best bet of the Beyer's kindly listed above?

Really appreciate the help.

Of the Beyers, the 770 has the most bass, and of the 770's, the 80 ohm version has the most bass. Or, so the popular wisdom goes. They are v-shaped, but not outrageously so, and they still maintain the detail and clarity that audiophiles seek.

That's very helpful, phthora...thank you.

EDIT:  So if my son mostly uses them out of his Mac Air and on occasion his iPhone, the 80 ohm is OK?  I was thinking the 32 16 ohm might be more practical.

You are correct. 80 ohm impedance would require an external amp. 32 or 16 would be better out of a phone. They are not super-sensitive, so I might go 16 ohm to make sure the phone can drive them.

The DT880 (particularly the 600ohm version) is an overlooked gem, particularly at going used prices these days.

Mixed reviews on these. Tread carefully.

I too, jumped on the BL for $399. What a steal. Close to the top of what I have acquired, which is less than $500!

Seriously! I think I have seen it at that price once before, maybe it was the original? Hopefully they do it again.
